Ok i know the cesman won't be around to create debs. Would installing this be like the directions here for installing cvs? http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1819&highlight=cvs+compile

Or am I way off base?

Also if it is, it mentions options for configuring each module, are these just optional or are things really required that i should make sure to add on as options if i do it this way?

Thanks for any help. Or if someone wants to post a quick How-to for the new MYTHTV release this weekend, that'd be great, but i know how busy every one is, so if its just like that thread or point out another one, great.

If you don't know whether those are dierctions for setting up to builld from CVS it may not be something you should undertake. ;-)

Did you intend to ask if those directions are current or uptodate for 0.17?

That as you have noticed is for CVS versions of myth.. which for a day or two this weekend will parallel the release version. This is up2date, however last i heard you need to upgrade QT to a version greater then 3.1 to use .17 or current CVS. Their is a thread around here talking about upgradeing QT or r4v5 , but i havnt tried it.

Last thing when using the cvs version of myth you need to compile every module you want myth to use. for example compile MYthtv... mythvideo..mythmusic.

I know might not be clear but what i meant was, i know this directions are for installing CVS, but when Issaac releases .17, could i use the same directions to upgrade to .17 even tho it wouldn't be cvs anymore.

Right, but when he realeases the actual release is it like CVS and i have to do every module? I really only use mythtv and mythvideo and mythdvd

And i'll look around for upgrading QT thanks.

If you don't play games, there is no reason to install mythgame, same with mythnews, mythweather et al. The main app is independent of its plugins and the plugins seem pretty independent of each other. So in your case, just grab mythtv, mythdvd and mythvideo.

A release is more or less just a snapshot of what is in CVS at a certain moment in time. Hopefully Isaac puts a label on it so you can continue to retrieve it later as well...

Also, given the number of fairly ugly bugs in 0.16 I'd be very cautious about rushing to jump to 0.17 the minute it's "ready". I back ported a number of patches from CVS into my install in the weeks following the 0.16 release before I thought the system was reliably usable, and still have a couple outstanding issues.
