http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/inde ... adeWithLVM Just saw the above post. That is really great for those of us using LVM. THANKS! Preserving the information on the hdd's would be so nice. If it means wiping out all of my wife & kids shows then I will put off upgrading until it is absolutely necessary due to a crash or similar. Burning to DVDs just isn't practical for most of that stuff. Does or will the new R5 installer incorporate a step to upgrade LVM based systems or could that be added? The other issue with auto upgrading is that I have some configuration in special /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv to address the old/new PVR-250 mix. Will the R5 installer be sensitive to modified module configs and keep those settings? I am printing my ivtv module configuration just to be on the safe side. I wont be installing R5 anytime soon but it would be nice if it detected and/or preserved modified configurations. Thanks! Andrew Lynch |

I don't think R5 includes either of these at this point. I seriously doubt that it will save any changes to the ivtv stuff, as that is handled differently under the new 2.6 kernel. and as far as the lvm goes, I'm sure an upgrade procedure is not automated at this point, and somehow doubt it will be before R5, but possibly sometime in the future, but isn't the whole point of the article you referenced to upgrade without loosing data? I'm fairly certain that was his whole point. |
