Greetings,

I'm trying to get KnoppMyth installed on my PVR system. It's hardware is as follows:
VIA Epia MII - 1000
40GB HDD
PVR-350 (should have got a 250).
256MB RAM
Netgear WG511T WiFi card.

For those not too sure, the MII is the version of Epia that has a PC Card & CF slot built in to it's back, this is where the WG511T is installed.

I'm using the Epia's TV-Out rather than trying to input & output through the 350 (as I said I should have got a 250 but hey ho) and I've managed to get almost everything working with the stock kernel that is installed.
I use a wired connection to get madwifi and an apt-get update, plus install things like midnight commander and nano.

However I have some issues.

1. PC Card support is very 'weird', as per the madwifi wiki entry about the MII and the WG511T I've added the two setpci lines (modifiying them based on the memory range given by the first failed attempt) at the top of the start section in the '/etc/init.d/pcmcia' script.
It doesn't work the first time but if I do '/etc/init.d/pcmcia restart' and reinstert the card up pops madwifi and it pulls an IP address. Strange and annoying... ideas?
'apt-get install pcmcia-cs' upgrades me to the latest version yet the bug persists, perhaps I am adding my setpci lines in the wrong place? Although it did work during some experiments with fedora core 2 in the same place.

2. Sound. The perenial problem.
Nothing nada, zip. I've played around with 'alsamixer' and managed to induce a loud squeel through my headphones; so I know it's working (and it was working fine in XP-SP2) but I get no sound feedback from mythtv (does it have any?) and livetv doesn't produce anything no matter how high I ramp the settings.
I'm going to continue playing with this, see what mplayer and such make of a simple mp3/wav file.

2a. SP/DIF where is amixer hiding?
I've read through almost all the guides avaliable on getting the Epia's SP/DIF to fire up in Linux and I've given it several shots. Got it working on a different distro (but then mythtv wouldn't work so heh) but when I issue the 'amixer' command I'm told that it doesn't exist.
Where is this installed? And if it isn't how can I get it without totally borking my ALSA install up?

The PC Card issue I can live with, once fired up manually the thing hangs around like a trooper. Sound however is a major problem to me... no point in trying to watch telly when it's all silent :)

I'm currently downloading the R5 alpha that is avaliable, just to see what it's like on a vmware'd install. Out of interest would this possibly correct the issues I have?

quite possible. it has newer versions of almost everything. in particular the kernel, and alsa might help you out.

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I figured that might be the case. Finally got the sound working... it sounds horrible, quite crackly and urm... well like you'd expect linux t o sound like 5 - 6 years ago :)

Tried a reinstall still no clue where amixer is hidden :) I'll wait for the download to finish before pushing forward.
