Has anyone installed 0.17? If so, what results have you had?

I am anxious about rushing out to install it with the problems I have with 0.16 (seg faults, crashes).

I don't tend to install from source, so at the moment I am waiting on an anouncement that the .debs are ready. Even then I may wait on the release of R5.

Part of that is that I am not seeing any significant issues pushing me to upgrade today. I understand you are seeing a different issue, which I can sympathize with.

I would expect that a message will show up in anouncements a few hours, to a couple of days before the debs are generally available, requesting that some people download and test them. You may want to watch for that, and participate.

One thing is that without knowing why your system is segfaulting on 0.16, it is hard to predict whether 0.17 will provide a better experience. You might check the changelogs for 0.17 at the MythTV site, and see if they report a fix for whatever seems to be causing your issue.

Additionally you might want to try the CompileFromCVS instructions at the Wiki http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/index.php?page=CompileMythTVFromCVS, and see if you can get everything working that way.

Actually what I think he's talking about is that 0.16 has several known serious bugs that have been known since oh a few weeks after it was released and were corrected in CVS, the only problem is that to get those fixes you have to get all the other stuff crammed in CVS as well. I was rather disappointed that there was not a point release to fix some of the more egregious bugs.

I've been running CVS up to the 0.17 release which I am running now. It's been completely stable for me... but it has only been 4 days

Yes, that's what I mean.

It looks like some people (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/engine?do=post_view_flat;post=111160;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;list=mythtv) are having good sucess with 0.17.

Some people are having issues with MythPhone which is fixed now.

/me Looking forward to the 0.17 Debs :D .

That I can see, the base 0.17 debs are there, and working. I know this, because tyler knows this... No, wait, that's not right. I know this because I've updated my knoppmyth install to 0.17 across the board, and am running without problems
