Expect R5A10 w/ MythTV 0.17 and all modules late Friday or Saturday. Odds are unless I get a lot of requests for 0.17 debs for R4V5, it won't happen. Sorry, with a two man development team we cannot please everyone. I'm fully confident in alpha. It will probably be several days before I put up debs for A9 as I have to recompile then. I need to change the names so they can easily be gotten and reflect arch type. I also need to check compatibly with the name change. The debs are based on Matt's diffs. |

Since this is a version release thread I have a question. First, I don't care about date info. After the series of Alpha releases have completed with there be beta, or does the final alpha get blessed directly into R5V1? In my experience Alpha version is a very 'in-house' and beta is released but "don't be surprised if you find an issue" I'm wondering when to 'jump-in'. I have a single box in production and would like the major wrinkles flushed out (thank you to those able to test and improve the various alpha drops) before I move forward....but like everyone, I'm anxious. Is there any online list of current issues with the alpha code? If we could see it, maybe it would give some of us a level of comfort to move forward...and add to the testing base. If not, I'll sit tight and wait. thanx, Chris |

Well cesman will have to be the official voice, but the way I understand it is he still wants the graphical installer in R5, and will most likely call it beta once that's in. It is getting pretty stable at this point, but is missing several final tweaks, and of course the graphical installer is a big update. I think the fact that there have not been more problems posted since it went public is a real testament. I don't know if there is a known issue list anywhere, but there are only a few that I know of. 1) the permissions issues on a few files that stop the install. problem is posted with a fix, and that's the first I heard of that one after it went public. 2) the mtd has problem ripping dvd's to anything but perfect. 3) sample XF86Config files and other niceties are not there |

Does this mean that as of R5A10 all releases will be with MythTV 0.17 and not 0.16? I ask because I have to be very careful. Half my mythtv watching is done on my Mac and the DarwinPort is only available in 0.16 Thus I can't upgrade my mainbox to 0.17 until there is a Mac version. I just found 0.17 binaries for the Mac so 0.17 is fine with me! ![]() |

The "alpha" is a preview release. Most of what we want to put into R5 is already there, however we still have a few things to work on. A few things are missing, the major bug I've already pointed out. A beta is planned, followed by full featured R5. |

I got my answer, its just that I remember a post somewhere saying that you were not comfortable with putting 0.17 in, so I was wondering if A10 was just a test or a planned direction. |

rteichman wrote: I remember a post somewhere saying that you were not comfortable with putting 0.17 in Not a post I made... Since 0.17 is out, it makes sense to release a update that includes it.

I'd like to see the 0.17 debs for use with the R4 version. I'd love to help test out R5, but the wife is too dependent on the thing being stable... I'd never heard the end of it if something happened. Thanks for all the hard work! |

The alpha versions really are quite stable. In fact currently my box is more stable than what I had before. So far I'm very pleased. If you have the inclination I say help Cecil out and test. |

yes, and the problem comes in with some of the dependancies of getting 0.17 to work on R4, and I personally would rather have cesman spending that time working towards a release version of R5. |

I voted no to the debs. Considering how hard Cecil and Dale work on knoppmyth I figure I can do my part by risking my marriage on an upgrade to the new stuff. ![]() |

Post subject: | Graphical Installer |
Is the planned graphical installer graphical for the whole install (like redhat installs) or is it just the bit that currently runs in an xterm that will have a graphical interface? |
