Post subject:  Frontend Freezes when watching live TV and recording starts
This is happening on my R5A9 (I plan to upgrade this weekend to R5A10) system. I was experimenting last night and found that the intermitent freezing of Live TV (leaving it in Pause, or just plain live TV) was directly related to the start of a recording. Interestingly enough, the box asking to switch channels did NOT appear, the screen just froze and was unresonpsive to the remote or keyboard commands (other than [ctrl][alt][f1] for the console).

Last night I had the unit on live TV when the scheduled recording started. It froze and I left it frozen to check out what happens. This morning I found that all scheduled shows recorded (even the one that caused the freeze). This leads me to believe that only the frontend froze and the backend kept on going. Of course the really strange thing was that when I turned on my TV this morning (planning to reboot the system so as to check it out), I found that MythTV was set to the main menu (not the frozen live TV screen I left it at last night, nor the live TV I left it on last night) and it was no longer frozen. This leads me to believe that not only was it just the front end which was frozen, but once the recording stoped, the front end reset to the menu and came back to life.

hmmm .. i get this every now and again

instead of rebooting you could cop out and hit ctrl+alt+backspace
it restarts x and kills the frontend in the process then after about 30 seconds ... it comes back up like nothing happened :)
then ya can pop in and watch what it's recording :)

if anything it saves a reboot :) but i have nothing in the way of a fix
hehe i just have a script that's programmed to the blank happauge button ..... for x to restart

I take it then that R5A10 vith Myth .17 won't fix this problem. :(

Just out of curiosity, could you post the section of the IR config for that "restart X" button. Thanks

i'm using r4v5 actually ... but it only seems to do it on the default skin

i'll pull my lircrc out soon and try and figure out what i did .... LOL

on a side not the frontend crashing when a recording started and you were watching livetv was a known bug in 0.16, and "should" be fixed in 0.17 so I would give R5A10 a go.
