The specs on the Haupauge wintv cards mention cable ready. Does this include satalite input?

Thw Knoppmyth web site installation instructions says that WinTV Model 401 works out of the box. I want to believe this but, reviews on some reseller web sites say that the card is buggy. I believe they are using some form of Windows.

I'd like to know what Knoppmyth users have to say about this card working out of the box.

does it mean sat yes/no you can run from the sat box to the card and change channels via serial or ir, but it cannot tune straight from a sat.

as far as working "out of the box" just make sure you get one of the bt878 based cards, and it should work, but recently hauppage has changed to the conexant chip that is not supported.

I'd be very careful. I built my system this past November and spent way too much time trying to figure out why my winTv 401 was not working. I eventually learned about the connxant(sp) and other chip difference problem. I ended up biting the bullet and getting a pvr 250 and still have my brand new 401 sitting in the box till it will work.

If you are going to buy it, then be sure to do it at a place where you can easily return it and get all your money back, even if you've opened it. I am about to upgrade to R5 soon...does anyone know if it will be feasable to make it work with R5?

Yes, it's what I feared. I'll have to change channels on the sat box.

I have a conecxant card which is giving me problems. I would put in the model 401 if I could be sure it would work out of the box, if not I will continue my struggles with the 350 card.

as yet I think the conexant drivers are still not functional, and while the knoppmyth devs are great, they are not kernel driver developers, so not much they can do about it till a solid driver comes out for the conexant cards.
