I search the thread here and on gossomer and haven't found this issue.
When i've been messing about with my digital sound settings, I've noticed that sometimes after I play back a recorded show I cannot use the arrow keys to navigate in the setup screens. I can navigate in the main menu and all the sub menus, just not the setup screen. If I restart mythfrontend it goes away.
This seems like a playback related issue, because I can use the arrows in the setuup menus if I don't play recordings.
This doesn't happen every time but it seems to be somewhat intermittant. I've looked in the backend log and I have run mythfronend -v playback > log.log and I see nothing relevant

When you say messing with digital sound, do you mean in Xine?
There is a (little known) bug in Xine that stuffs up the window focus, so if you play a video or DVD with Xine as the player, then some of the Myth widgets won't work correctly afterwards.
My workaround is to make Myth pop up a window (like the ones that come up when you select a TV recording). The second time it pops up, all is well with the window focus.

I had noticed that when in the recordings menu, when I use the right arrow key to get the pop up menu that has play, delete, and other options, there are no highlighted buttons. So I have to use escape and then right arrow again and then I am able to choose something. Now that you mention it I was using xine to play DVD's. I'm glad you mentioned it, because I was going to post another question.
But, I'm not sure that the original problem I posted has to do with xine. I had rebooted my myth box to see if there was something screwy going on with X windows (yeah I know CTRL_ALT_BACKSPACE, or /etc/init.d/gdm restart, but I wanted to be sure) and I saw the same problem when I played the recording and tried to go into the setup menus. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with my garbled AC3 stream from my other post, because it only seemed to happen when I was playing the the sound options in the setup menu.
I'll have to do some more testing to see if I can consistently repeat the arrow key problem.

My situation might not be related at all (and I don't have a solution) but I thought I'd throw it out. I'm running R5A10, and twice now in the last week the guide has stopped responding to keys. I can pop it up and I get response to the first keypress (up/down or pgup/pgdown), and then nothing. Esc out and come back in I get one response again and then nothing. Restarting X has made the problem go away both times.

There's a known issue with xine and focus not going back where it should after ti's run... Did this happen after you'd run xine to play a DVD or the like?
