Post subject: | Connecting to backend server |
I have searched the forum for a few days and can't seem to find anything that will answer the following: I simply want to stream my Dish Network feed from the dish player to MythTV through my Pinnacle PCTV Pro (bttv). I am able to get MythTV setup and running just fine (as far as getting to the main mythtv screens, viewing weather, etc). However, when I try to watch TV, the screen just goes black. While running tail -f .xsession-errors, it says connecting to backend server 127.0.0.1:6543 and nothing happens. Does this mean that I must have the XMLTV data stored in the database and that is why it is hanging, cause it doesn't and cannot get the information? OR is it even possible to stream the TV (like coming from a VCR or Video Game) through MythTV in this manner. Also, when I try to play a DVD it looks like the DVD player spins up... there is hard drive access... then nothing. I did find some things in the forum that referenced this same issue, but nothing that hellped. Thanks for any help. HARDWARE: Stock E-Machine EMonster 500a, NetGear Network Card, Pinnacle PCTV Pro. http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-20.html#ss20.30 Check the mythtv log in /var/log/mythtv/ Run the frontend from an xterm, it should output something if there are errors(after exiting you'll see it). /dev/dvd is linked to /dev/hdc. It other words, the secondary mastyer drive. KnoppMyth will not play encypted this can also be an issue. BTW:I don't think a P III 500 is powerful enough to view live tv. You should however have do problems recording and playing back later.... |
