In the Pamphlet of KnoppMyth the FS layout shows that the /myth/video holds the various video files, but sometimes /var/lib/mythtv is used. I found in several threads the same question but no answer. Is it possible to just change the following settings, or do some more changes have to be made, or should it be left as is? Video playback dir: Utilities/Setup > Setup > Media Settings > Video Settings > General Settings > -Directory that holds videos: /var/lib/mythtv DVD Ripper temp dir: Utilities/Setup > Setup > Media Settings > DVD Settings > Rip Settings > -Directory to hold tempory files: /var/lib/mythdvd/temp |

It hasn't changed. I will not change. This error orrcurs when the configuration process isn't allowed to continue on its own. |

Thanks for the quick answer cesman! So then something went wrong during setup... I think I saw some sql errors passing the screen during install, but i went to fast to read. Is it possible to rerun the setup or some part of the setup to fix this? (like /usr/local/bin/KnoppMyth-install)? PS. I used the i686 with lirc option during setup. |

Just to add a data point, whatever went wrong with your install went wrong with mine, too. I saw some SQL errors whiz by, and my video-related dirs were set like yours were. Changing the dirs to be under /myth allowed me to transcode successfully - otherwise, I ran out of disk space. Cesman, if you need to get detail on the problem, I'm willing to re-install and save off the text that scrolls by, assuming it is related to that SQL problem. Or if there's a logfile that might still be around 48 hours after installation, I could send that along. |

i seem to have the same problem durring install, but cant transcode. After I manualy changed the directories it would build the copy of the DVD in /myth/tmp file then the file would disappear with out being converting. Did you make any changes to the slq file in anyway besides the menu system on the myth box (ie. Terminal or X). If so what did you do. |

dvd rips not transcoding is a known issue that has yet to be pinned down. |

I made no changes directly to the SQL database. I do remember that the SQL error was related to MythDVD, so it's possible all it was trying to do was change the directories as we each had to end up doing manually. |

I'm not sure what "isn't allowed to continue" means, but is there a way to re-run whatever post-install is supposed to happen? When I did a manual install (which the pamphlet said I had to with a SATA drive) it ended by dropping me abruptly to a root prompt. The box was not bootable, but after repeating the install twice with the exact same result I did figure out how to use chroot and run LILO manually to get an MBR. I didn't figure it out at the time, but when I tried installing an earlier version of KnoppMyth on a completely different computer 8-10 months ago I think I saw the result. I was dropped to a root prompt with no error message and at that time I didn't figure out the chroot/LILO trick. I just gave up on MythTV for a while. As of right now, I have core functionality of recording and playback but lots of stuff doesn't work. I'm not sure how much of it is features that aren't complete and how much of it might be due to configuration that the install process didn't complete correctly. |
