Post subject:  NFS question-Sharing recorded videos between mythboxes

I recently put together a second mythtbox with the intention of using it as a frontend end only. I put a Kworld BTTV capture card in it to see if I could get the remote to work. Turns out the Kworld card and remote work very well.

So now I am thinking I would not mind using the Kworld box to record also, this way I have 2 tuners (but in different rooms) to record with. So both my mythboxes have full installs of mythtv (not just frontend on the kworld box)

So I am thinking about putting the Kworld box in the bedroom with my main pvr250 box in the living room with the enternainment center. I only intend on using the Bedroom Kworld box when the wife and kids run me out of the living room. So it will be turned off when not actively in use.

Here is my question: Can I set these two Mythboxes up to share their TV directories? In other words, when I boot up the Kworld box in the bedroom, I would like the recorded files on the Kworld box AND the recordings on the PVR250 box downstairds both to show up (using nfs to share the directories over my netowrk).

I see that NFS shares and mounts directories on different linux boxes on the network, but I am unsure about the database stuff in Mythtv. Is this something the database stuff can handle or do I need to put the two tuners in one box and run just a frontend upstairs in the bedroom?

You don't set up nfs shares in a case like that, you configure as master be/ slave be. I can't tell you how to do it, but maybe that gives you a little more info to use in search boxes on the myth sites.

Thanks Cesman

That looks like exactly the info I was looking for. I wasn't sure if I explained myself clearly or not.

I am not sure my SBE will be able to record video to the MBE via my 54g wireless setup. Currenty my daughters winbox can stream video from my myth MBE, so maybe my new SBE mythbox will work well too. I can always run some cat5 if needed.

Thanks again.
