Post subject: | Easy Question: How do I run mythtv-setup in R5A12? |
prefacing this with the fact that i'm a complete linux newbie. that, and i'm soooo close to finishing an install and sooooo tired after working on it for almost a week now. in r4, i used to be able to exit out of myth, hit f1, grab an xterm window and type "mythtv-setup" -- or something to that effect. now, since upgrading, all i get is "cannot connect to x server" because the only terminal i can get to is by hitting ctrl+alt+f1. am i just crazy? am i making it too hard? i just want to make a few changes i've read about to my input devices and i don't want to do a complete reinstall to get there. i'm so close to a working myth box, i don't want to start over. i've been looking for a post that talks about it for about 2 hours now. it seems like it's just something that's taken for granted by folks who actually know what their doing -- unlike me. thanks. chris. |

Exit out of MythTV and right click on the desktop. Shall I go further or can you take it from here? |

I really miss the F1 key to bring up the menu to be able to start mythtv-setup from a shell. On previous versions I could manage to do a complete knoppmyth install without a working mouse. |

I like the idea of not having to use the mouse as well, as where I am setting up my Box is not really convenient to use the mouse, fortunately mine is optical. |

Different window manager, different configuration. I'm sure if you Google fluxbox hotkeys you'll find something. Once you've found and tested, you can post a hint. Who knows, it may find it's way into the next release... |

I found the instructions and to put them simply and to work how is previously suggested: Code: nano ~/.fluxbox/keys This is the file that contactins the hotkeys and from what I have read, you need to add to this file: Code: F1 :xterm
In thoery this should configure the F1 key to start xterm. Unfortunately being at work, I am unable to test this theory, but when I do get the chance to give it a go I will let you know how it goes, unless someone beats me to it. Not quite... Notice, I stated post a hint. The proper place would be Hints & Tips not Installation. |

Sorry for posting my findings here, but as I had not tested them I can not confirm they are in fact an Hint or a Tip. But I do understand where you are going and it is confirmed it should diffenently be placed in that forum. Again apolgies. |

I tried this last night, but found it didn't work, perhaps I did not type the command correctly which I will check when I get the chance. |

Right it doesn't work. Hence my 'not quite' above... |
