OK - I have tried to resolve my problem for three days and have searched every forum I can find and have tried multiple things to resolve what should be a simple problem. So now I have to ask for help...

I bought myself a new PVR 250 for my R5A12 production machine which has a Hauppauge PCI WinTV in it (in pci slot 1). Everything was fine except that, of course, the new card was video1 and therefore not the default. No problem I thought - switched the PCI slots (put the 250 in the slot closest to the AGP slot) and rebuilt. The old card still came up as video0 but there was no video1 (ls -l /dev/video showed only video0). I checked the logs and saw that IVTV didn't setup.

I switched the cards again, rebuilt, and everything was fine again except default was again old card.

OK I thought... Pulled the old card out, put the new card in slot 1, rebuilt, came up correctly as video0 and everything worked fine. Put the old card back in slot 2, started the machine, card was found, went through mythtv-setup, saw new card as video0, old card as video1, fixed the tuner type on the new card (/etc/mythtv/ivtv) BUT tuner type on the old card was set to 39 (as was the new card of course). I have tried everything I can find to set the tuner type=2 on the old card - altered /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv and added an option tuner=2, added Xsecret's posted lines to modules.conf, etc... Nothing worked.

How does one set different tuner types for different cards? And any clues why the standard R5A12 build worked for the 2 cards in the slots one way but not the other (got to be something I overlooked...)?

1. Sound like something is screwy w/ your motherboard if the card closest to the AGP slot won't work with a card.

2. It really doesn't matter which card is assigned /dev/videoX, y or z. If you want a card to me primary, make that the first card you define in mythtv-setup.

3. Setting the tuner type has been on the forum damn near since it's inception.

4. Don't create a new thread for the same problem.

Thanks cesman for the quick reply. I have tried making the 250 the first card setup in mythtv-setup (that is the way it is now) but when I go to 'watch tv' the second card comes up (have to hit 'Y' to get to the new tuner) and the default record is still the old card.

I just re-did mythtv-setup again flipping the two (new card second); same results.

There may be something screwy with this first slot so now I have tried slot 2 and 3, flipped the cards, and tried again - exact same results.

My question re:tuner types is for my education. I have followed the bazillion questions on this and other forums about it and this problem does not show up... Any insight is appreciated.

You probably want something like:

options ivtv tuner=x,y

where x=the tuner # for the first card and y=the tuner # for the second card.

Thanks Brendan. I'll try that and report back...
