Hi,

Upgraded from R4A5 because of sudden instability (it ran for months without a hitch, and then the backend would die every few days. I hadn't changed a single config setting.)

Anyway, now I am at R5A12 and I have the auto-expire set to 4GB but it doesn't work. Any ideas as to how to troubleshoot this?

Presumably you mean R4V5... As for why it would suddenly start dying... Something obviously changed. My guess would be DB corruption from a crash or unclean shutdown (do you have a UPS?), or a maybe creeping hard disk failure... :( (Ugh!) A friend who worked the IT helpdesk used to declare the problem was "bit rot" in mystery cases like this.

As for issues with auto expiration... I seem to remember seeing something about this either in the MythTV Users mailing list: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/ or in the MythTV bugzilla: http://www.mythtv.org/bugs/ Worth a look in any case...

BTW - Any reason that you didn't go to R5A15 or R5A15.1 which has Myth 0.18 and lots of bug fixes?

How long has A15 been out? I just did the upgrade 3 or 4 weeks ago and it looked like A12 was the latest. The upgrade was not all that smooth but I guess I can do it again.

I looked through those links and didn't see anything. I guess I'll wait and see if anyone else posts or upgrade to A15 to see if that fixes it.

You are kidding right? One can easily find out the answer to this by taking a look at the main page or the change log. As for any issue related to MythTV and auto expire, I'd suggest taking a gander at the MythTV mailing list.
