Post subject:  PVR 250, worked under earlier version, upgraded to R5A15.1

Hi,

I recently upgraded a box that was running an earlier release and everything was working fine, to R5A15.1. Everything is working for me except my PVR-250. I have no audio. The tuner is autodetecting as type=8 but my recollection from my previous install is that it was a tuner type=39.

How can I force the tuner type to over ride the autodetection? I tried uncommenting the option tuner type=x line in /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv but I didn't have any luck, it still came up as type=8.

Help appreciated.

Thanks,

-Jeff

I'm re-installing the older version so I can confirm the working tuner type.

Grooby from IRC tells me that, for instances where you wish to force a tuner type instead of the default auto-detect:

Code:
/etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv

Should include the line:

options ivtv tuner=xx

Where xx is the tuner number.

I have 2 PVR250's in my box, and I found that when I installed R5A15 (not .1)that in the database, capturecard table, audiodevice field I needed to add /dev/dsp. Try that. I added it and rebooted and it started working.

Trying that now.

Code:
mysql -u root -p mythconverg

(enter for password)

mysql> update capturecard set audiodevice = '/dev/dsp' where videodevice = '/dev/video0';

I did a select and confirmed it was there, but no love in mudville. :( Still just static and no audio.

The weirdness continues.

I did a fresh install of R4V3 to see if the earlier driver solved things, knowing I had it working back then.

It didn't.

I'm wondering if a newer firmware got loaded along the way that has messed things up? Is it possible to downgrade the firmware?

Always connect your CATV feed for testing. Don't assume static is enough to know the tuner is working.

Always change the channel once or twice under live TV before thinking the audio isn't working. THe first channel may be video only but a simple channel change may fix the problem...

I hope this saves someone else my agony. :)
