Would you like netcardconfig to default to static or DHCP? Would you rather have it try an obtain an IP via DHCP or would you rather enter static information first(you're not using DHCP). |

Personally I prefer DHCP. I run my own dhcp scope off of another Linux box in my apartment, but most "Broadband Routers" come with dhcp enabled, and serve up addresses automatically. (had to disable this on mine.) This is a "simplification" feature for most home users. The only problem with using DHCP is that most dhcpd servers I have worked with are not set up to publish back the name of the system that requested the IP address for dns resolution. It is trivial to find out what address you were assigned, but is an annoyance when you have to go back and forth between a couple of devices. |

if dhcp clients come and go...address will get reused and the server may get a new address at next reboot. DHCP is great for clients cus no one is 'looking' for them |

I have my own /27, and I want to be able to access my box remotely, and I don't have DHCP setup. Rob P.S. I imagine for the vast majority of people, DHCP is going to be more requested. Most people (In my experience) are behind nat because they only have 1 IP. |

I think that DHCP should remain the default like it is now, and you can always say no I want to set things statically if you know what you are doing. I personally use DHCP to assign the same address every time. |
