Post subject:  IR Blaster Recommendation for R5.A15.1

Hi All,

I've searched the forums and the mailing list but I haven't come across the info I"m looking for yet.

I personally have a homebew serial lirc transmitter a friend cooked up for me. However, I'm building a new box from scratch for a non-technical friend and I'd like to buy an off the shelf serial IR transmitter (IR Blaster) that works out of the gate with KnoppMyth.

Can anyone recommend a store bought transmitter that is known to work with KnoppMyth?

Thanks.

-Jeff

I'm seeing mixed feedback on R5A15 with the very nice looking transmitter from:

Any comments?

I have one. It works as well as my homebrew. Looks a little better though :)

Was it straight forward to get working under 5A15.1?

The transmitter is the same as most simple homebrews. Just a nicer package.

Setup under R5A15.1 is straight forward. You'll need to compile a kernal module for lirc_serial with transmit capability. But that's not hard.

I've posted detailed instructions for getting a serial transmitter working along with a non-serial receiver here:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4462

The instructions are general for Debian-based MythTV systems, so some of the steps will have been done already by KnoppMyth.
