Post subject: | No sound on video playback |
Been looking on the forums for a few day but can't seem to find this problem. Please forgive me if I have missed something. I just upgraded (Actually fresh install) to R5a15.1. Everything looks great. I have 2 sound cards. The onboard Via82xx card is connected to my tv card. The 2nd card is a C-Media CM8738. This card handles the playback. The install handled both these cards very well. I have sound in live TV, recorded programs, and music module. I have no sound for my video files. The video is great but no sound. I tried mplayer from the command line and also XINE. Same thing. No sound. What am I missing? Anyone every had this problem. I have had to tweak my setup in the past but the install set up both my sound cards and my capture card. Never had sound work in some modules and not in others. Please help. Why use two sound cards? You should be able to playback and record through the same card (This is what happens when someone with a YUV capture card and a single sound card watches live TV for example). At a guess you need to tell xine/mplayer which sound card to use for output (telling MythTV doesn't carry over to them). To verify this you can try hooking your speakers to the other sound cards output while using xine or mplayer, you may also have to un-mute it outputs. I don't know what the config options to point xine/mplayer to the second card are but you should be able to find them easily enough in the man pages or builtin help. |

the only thing that would come to mind is that the video files are using a codec that is not installed. If you have a windows box and access to the video files on the windows box you can use a program called GSpot and it will tell you what codec the video file is using for both the video and audio. |

Yeah, I know that, but unless he said it elsewhere he doesn't mention multiple BTTV cards. I still suspect it's a a /dev/audio0 vs. dev/audio1 thing. Since the xine and mplayer config are seperate from the MythTV config it'd be easy to only set it in one of the three places... |
