Post subject:  Static when HD is in use!

I have a strange problem. Everything with Knoppmyth is GREAT!!!! R5A16 Rocks.

My problem is the Hard Drive, maybe someone has had this problem. It seems like when Myth or actually anything hits the HD for any reason it puts a very slight static line in the display! This can be at anytime, During boot, watching TV..etc..

Has anyone had this issue?

ASUS P4C800-E with 2.6 p4

To troubleshoot a hardware issue like this means supplying serious details, like...

- PATA or SATA?

- How big is your Powersupply? What type?

- What type of MoBo and Video card?

- Maybe some shielded drive cables would help? For external cables you can test this with the old grounded aluminum foil trick, but inside the case beware of shorts! You can actually stick the foil to paper or plastic with the edges folded over to make homemade shielding wrap, but shielded cables aren't all that pricey...

Perhaps you have IRQ sharing between your video card and something else in your box. Try changing slots on the video card and see if you can provoke it into changing IRQ assignments.

Not sure who makes the PS but it is a 240 watt!
PATA in compat mode
video is an mx440 agp but I have tried a pci nvidia 5200 also.
When i bought the cables for this box I purchased the rounded sheilded ones

Are you thinking a ground problem?

I am going to check the IRQ's and see if that will help.

I read that part in your original post, I asked for more detail, like in my signature, because it wasn't enough. With make/model info so we can look up the specs. and tech notes. If you told me the drive maker and model number I wouldn't have to ask PATA or SATA, or for the memory what it's speed and timings are.

Given the amount of stuff you have in the box that maybe a bit low... Especially for a no name power supply.

Huhn? Compatibility mode with what? It usually means that you're making the BIOS pretend that SATA drives are PATA for compatibility...

OK, so no fan or supplemental power to the video card?

Round or sheathed is not necessarily the same as shielded. The first is done to airflow, neatness, and appearance, the second for RF protection and at least in the old days used to involve a seperate grounding strap that you had to hook to the case. I've got round drive cables in my new box too, but it's just plastic tubing with no RF sheilding capabilities.

No, I was thinking either RF or an overloaded powersupply. I'm currently leaning towards the later...

Also a good idea.
