ok i finally for knoppmyth to work, and i put a leadtek 2000xp tuner card in. it detects it fine, i run setup, fill in what is needed but when i try to view TV i get no signal (green screen, static at top as described in other topics) ive tried the bttv=34 thing and that didnt do anything...im lost and confused ![]() for example, ABC channel 2 (frequency 64.24) but that doesnt work. any ideas? thanks |

you may need to clarify the bttv=34 thing, because there are some things similar to that, but if you have bttv=34 anywhere you didn't do it right. |

ah yeah sorry, should have mentioned that, in /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv i added the line Code: options bttv card=34 tuner=5
and restarted but that didnt help. also, following what other users did in my case, Quote: tv_grab_au is in R5. It uses d1.com.au as a video source. This server is a bit unreliable, but it is the only legal source so far.
In the setup program, you set a programme data source (3. Video Sources, new, give it a name, set it to Australia, hit the Finish button, then Alt-Tab to get the text window, then wait a while and type in the appropriate responses). Then, link the card to that data source (4. Input connections). Next, go to the channel editor, and for the channels you have defined, match them to an XMLTV id (like free.Sydney.9.d1.com.au). When you exit setup from the initial KnoppMyth install, I think it runs mythfilldatabase automatically. If you are doing this after the initial install, just run mythfilldatabase yourself. but get the error that tv_grab_au cannot be found. |

I have install a WinFast XP in a PC, install KnoppMyth R5A16 and had it work, so this conbination should just work for you. 1) What version of KnoppMyth are you running? 2) You could try the xawtv application to see if your card setup works. If you still get the green screen, try taking out the bttv options that you added. 3) Have you tried the UHF equivalents? (e.g. ABC in Sydney is VHF 2, UHF 42, UHF 46) |

ok, i didnt realise i downloaded R5A15, i downloaded 16 and i got somewhere...but i still cant tune in, d1.com.au sets the channels but not the frequencies. if you know what i mean. ive tried with and without the bttv options, but i have a question, is the frequencyID the place im meant to input the station frequency? and is it meant to be in Hz or MHz (ABC brisbane is 64.24MHz, 64240000Hz) and also how do i change from VHF to UHF? or is it done automatically just by looking at the frequency...im a bit lost on the whole tv tuning part right now, but knoppmyth works like a treat othterwise. thanks for the help EDIT: and yes, xawtv works, but i only had a quick look but i got ABC in black n white no sound. EDIT2: ok, turns out i havent set up my audioo correctly, ill worry bout that later, xawtv works fine once set to AUS so yeah... |

grr this is weird, for some magical reason it now kinda works in mythv....BUT its always stuck on one channel (whatever was last viewed in xawtv) and it is VERY laggy, it pauses every second, and theres no sound...but yet, it runs perfectly fine in xawtv... D: *shrugs* |

I have the same card, but running R4v5. I had exactly the same problem at some point. The frequency-ids are the channel ids - they are definitely NOT frequencies. If you want to grab any of my config files etc (esp. useful for customising LIRC) I've put some notes on my install on the web (at http://www4.tpg.com.au/undy/mythtv/mythtv.htm), you may find some bits useful, although its for an earlier release (planning to upgrade to new release & a digital card this weekend). They are the notes I use to rebuild if I blatt the system. Persist - its really worth it. |

edo660 wrote: d1.com.au sets the channels but not the frequencies. Correct, because their database doesn't know what sort of antenna you have, or where you live. In Sydney, for example there are three possible frequencies for ABC analogue. Quote: but i have a question, is the frequencyID the place im meant to input the station frequency? No, just the channel number. If you have set the country correctly, it knows how to map 12 (which is VHF) to 226.5MHz, or 33 (which is UHF) to 543.5MHz.

omg i got it working! thanks HEAPS nigel, undy and Xsecrets! but only problem is, is that tv play is lagged, ie it plays a bit, freezes, plays a bit, etc...i assume its hardware issue? (since its constently writing to HDD for live TV buffer) P3-1ghz 20gig drive (i think this is the culprut, its dodgey) 256mb RAM on-board vid and sound (currently only connected to a monitor) |

Have a look through the forum & mythtv doco, there are several things you can try. When I was at a similar stage to you I had messages about running mythtv & mythfrontend SUID root for better performance, which I did. Check that DMA is enabled on your disk. I'm sure there are many more suggestions out there. |

installing the nvidia drivers (install-nvi<tav><tab>) as root from a console (ctrl-alt-f1) is also supposed to improve performance. |

hmmm, i wouldnt think so from first thoughts, since im using a mobo that has an intel i810 chipset with onboard video...? anyway, ill think about this later, watching live tv in xawtv is fine....if there was a way to disable tv buffering until i get some new and better hardware in mythtv... |

heh, well from reading some topics and that it might be easier to just remove lirc and install from source but yeah, i dont need the remote just yet, trying to find ways to reduce this jumpiness when watching TV on mythtv....it was working fine last night on the crap 20gig HDD i have, but when i switched over to a good WD 80gig i have it turned to crap again... |
