I am totally frustrated trying to install myth. Guessing the regular install would be too difficult I installed the knoppmyth version..

I was finally able to install after getting a new dvd/cd rom drive. It detected all my capture cards (I think initially) and I set it all up.

Machine is a 1ghz PIII, with 256 megs of ram.
I just threw a videocard to do the test setup. It is a Nvidia Geforce3ti 200. I used the "nv drivers" default.
I had no soundcard in this machine as I really intended it to be a backend, so I just left it as is.
Configured 3 lineups in zap 2 it.

HDTV OTA
DirectTV (non local channels)
Analog Cable Comcast

I have 3 ota HDTV3000 cards. 2 PVR 250s.

3 OTA have were setup as
video 32, OTA, tuner 0
video 33, OTA, tuner 0
video 34, OTA, tuner 0

pvr 250,
dev/video0, DirectTv, svideo
dev/video1, Comcast, tuner0

For the directv source I pulled the script for sony.pl and set the initial channel to 202. Connected a serial cable to my sony bat55

( I have no idea how to set serial settings), saw some commands for tty blah, blah

Channel Database was setup and I let it run.

So I tried to watch livetv on a cable and sat channel lineup. Black screen, 10secs later dump out.

Tried pressing Y. Nothing. reboot. reboot reboot

Figured it was the HDTV cards. Removed them from capture card settings and set the PVR 250 to higher priority.

Nothing black screen 10seconds.

Try to watch cable only.

Nothing black screen 10seconds.

Try to record works but I get recordings that are blank.

So I remove the HDTV capture cards from setup. Then try everything again.

This time I get errors that sound is not configured. ( I just wanted to see if I could get recordings or watch live tv, I dont care about sound). Dumps out. Still Blank recordings.

I try to add back the HDTV cards in mythtv-setup. Now when I try to setup the last card it won't allow me to select and input on the third card video34

I look into dmesg. It looks like IRQ4 is being shared by PVR 250 and PCHDTV.

I realize I am doing everything the wrong way. But I just want to test.

I have a frontend all ready to go.

Anybody in NJ that could help out? Or try and help out through IM or something.

I have been trying for a while.

if you are using R5A16 then you are going about setting up your pchdtv card wrong.

R5A16 uses the dvb drivers, so you should setup your cards as dvb not pchdtv.

as for the other how are you connecting your sat box to your pvr250's? coax composite svid?

and do you actually have analog cable connected to one of them?

thanks for the response.

I am using the newest release.

The pvr-250 is using svideo connected to the directtv box.

and yest I have analog cable connected to the coax input.

well you might want to start with using the pvr250 that is going to be doing analog cable as the first input, as it will be the easiest to configure. As far as the hd3000 cards go look in the hdtv forum for information on the new dvb drivers and how to use them.

Yes I tried that. I connected the two pvr-250 to the cable and configured the inputs for tuner 0 and channel lineup for comcast.

I then tried to record. Tuners were listed as recording. However when I try to access livetv or watch the recording I got the audio error and blank recordings.

Will it work without a audio device installed on the box?

yes it should work, of course it will gripe at you and ask if you want to continue without audio, but you'd expect that.

It's most likely a tuner type problem. grep ivtv and tveeprom from /var/log/messages, and see what it is saying.

Couple more hints:

1. mythtv doesn't seem to handle the hd3000's well when they can't lock onto a signal. long pause/black screen/etc. I found this out the hard way and need to put an external antenna up on the roof to get my hdtv fix.

2. I'd start the install with one 250, get that working, record what you did to make it work, then take it out and try an hd3000, record what you did to make it work, then add the rest of the cards and extend the approach.

3. These days, it's almost a given that hauppauge cards will require recent development versions of ivtv.

thanks for the replies guys.

The HDTV OTA is working fine.

I knew to fix that before even trying the PCHDTV cards.

Currently I have a Zenith HD DirectTV tuner that is connected to a Channel Master 4228,QuadShield cabling,Palading Waterproof Connector and a ChannelMaster 7775 Titan Pre-amp.

So should I physically remove all of the PCHDTV cards from the motherboard master backend. Or can I just leave them out of the mythbackend configuration.

Post subject:  some success

So I configured the PCHDTV cards with DVB drivers and connected the analog comcast cable to both of the happauge 250. They are configured on "tuner 0".

I restarted the box. I went into manage recordings and did a test recording of Sienfeld. IT WORKED. I could view it in my recordings.
Analog cable looks terrible on my monitor.

Here is the problem. When I try to record on the other tuner or any other show after that I get blank recording (snow).

I dont' understand what is going on?

So I changed the frequency to cable hrc and now I can record with both tuners at the same time. No more static recordings on analog cable.

I still cannot watch livetv

It just stays black and then dumps back to the gui

I am really sorry but I when i run dmesg it goes by too fast.

I see that the second tuner pvr-250 device/video 1 is type 2 and I think the first one is as well. What does that mean.

I must be getting the command wrong to modify ivtv wrong. when i try to do an edit it doesn't allow me.

That's why the Unix gods invented more. ;-) Try:
Code:
dmesg | more

You can also use you favorite editor (or more) to browse the /var/log/dmesg file or /var/log/messages which has most of the same contents.
Code:
more /var/log/dmesg

OBTW - to do this kind of admin work you need to become "root", depending on how you're connecting (logging in on a different virtual console, ssh from another box, a terminal window from the "penguin on a couch" desktop) that will either mean giving the username "root" and the appropriate password at the prompts, or using "su - root" and entering root's password when prompted.

I still cannot watch live-tv but now I have the DirecTV working. It is configured via s-video and looks pretty good. A little soft and fuzzy but pretty good. I put the external change script in and attached a serial cable but it is not changeing channels properly.

I also was able to watch a DVD in Xine.

thanks guys.

I know how to get to root. su etc..
