Post subject: | System wont load, disk out of space |
Hey everyone... ive been here a while, and think i should be able to get this thing working on my own, but latley ive been having problems on my slave backend/frontend with the /dev/hda1 running out of space, and im looking for some help... basically whats happening is like i said, im running out of disk space on my /dev/hda1 drive, looking deeper in to it, it seems the system is not removing my ringbuf2.nuv file on a reboot. thus when i remove it, i can reboot the box, and all is fine again. as it stands, after i remove that file, my partitions look like this Quote: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 3.5G 1.6G 1.7G 49% / /dev/hda3 11G 24K 11G 1% /cache /dev/hda4 139G 112G 27G 81% /myth does anyone have any suggestions for me? or should i write a script to check for that file on bootup, and remove it? Thanks |

You may want to limit the size of that file or the amount of space available for recordings. You're running out of space for one of those two reasons. |

Thanks for your reply coreyt - The problem it seems is all my front end. The ringbuf2 file is not beig deleted on a reboot which is stopping GDM from loading... As soon as i manually deleted the file (say my frontend crashed while watching a show) and do a /etc/init.d/gd restart - it brings it up again. a df-h reveals this Quote: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda1 3.5G 1.6G 1.8G 48% / /dev/hda3 11G 24K 11G 1% /cache /dev/hda4 139G 112G 27G 81% /myth mbe:/myth 170G 53G 118G 31% /mnt/mbe //scott/media 77G 71G 6.0G 93% /myth/video/scott showing without that fille im using 47% of that 3.7GB partition. a du -h --max-depth=1 reveals this Quote: 16K ./lost+found 24K ./cache 120G ./myth 3.3M ./bin 3.8M ./boot 140K ./dev 15M ./etc 4.1M ./home 4.0K ./initrd 57M ./lib 4.0K ./media du: `./mnt/mbe/lost+found': Permission denied 53G ./mnt 4.0K ./opt 513M ./proc 14M ./root 7.3M ./sbin 0 ./sys 20K ./tmp 1.3G ./usr 127M ./var 4.0K ./cdrom 4.0K ./none 174G . seems ./usr is the bigger dir here with 1.3G being used, cd in to that and did another du -h --max-depth=1 Quote: 8.9M ./NX
84M ./X11R6 88M ./bin 4.0K ./doc 50M ./games 39M ./include 310M ./lib 27M ./local 18M ./sbin 400M ./share 296M ./src 1.3G . seems pretty scattered, im not a linux guru so i dont know what i can safley remove and what i can,t going off this info, can someone tell me please? to help me free up my space. i also through setup - tv settings - general changed my HD Ringbuffer size to 4700, 14100 and others to try to get it to stop that file size from being so large, it doesnt seem to be helping. Please someone has to have a suggestion. |

further to this, i have set the HD Ringbuffer size in setup-tv-general to 4700 KB (Which according to my conversions 4.58984375MB, yet it does nothing to that.... in fact, the ringbuf2.nuv file keeps getting bigger and bigger..... is there something broken, or is it me? |

huh, this is neat i found out that my ringbuf file is being recorded to /var/cache/myth not on the /cache dir... interesting... time to change some settings, just have to find out where.. |

K got it sorted out, guess ill give credit to the beer im drinking to make me think outside of the box... i checked out mythtv-setup on my Slave Backend/front end... and guess what! on general settings i had the cache dir going to /var/cache/mythtv, changed it to /cache/cache and i had the live tv buffer set to 5 GB now its 12 all is good in tv land again ! |
