Post subject: | ATI remote wonder using lirc rather than gatos |
Running KnoppMyth R5A16 and want to use my ATI remote wonder utilizing lirc rather than the gatos drivers. I use MythVideo (mplayer) and MythTV a lot and I feel lirc may provide me with a better configuration soution over the gatos drivers. My question is how do I remove the Gatos driver? My 1st guess would be 1. rm /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.11.9-chw-2/drivers/usb/input/ati_remote.c 2. cd usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.11.9-chw-2/drivers/usb/input 3. make 4. make install 5. Install lirc per instructions @ http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=LIRCHowTo Question #1: Would I also have to disable the gatos driver from loading at boot? If so where? Question #2: Would steps 3-4 be recompiling the kernel usb input driver and not including the ati_remote since source is not present? Thanks, BTW great distro. |

well unless you put the gatos driver in there (I doubt it since I don't even think it's available for the 2.6 kernels) then R5A16 doesn't have the gatos driver it uses the built in kernel module from the 2.6 kernel. |

Thanks for the help. I didn't load gatos drivers. It appear ati_remote is loaded in usbcore module. (lsmod | grep ati_remote). Do you think it would be bad if I attempted to configure lirc with the kernel ati_remote module active? |

well it would be rather confusing. I was hoping someone would come along that knows for sure why the module loads. initially you can rmmod ati_remote, but you need to find out why it's loading on boot. I would check /etc/modules file and see if it's in there, if not I would add it to the /etc/hotplug/blacklist. However I'm not sure if that's where it gets loaded or not, just my first two guesses. |

Suprising, I believe the kernel sees this remote and load the appropriate module. |
