After looking through all the setup options and having not found a clear reference on the forums to adding recording groups I have to cry "uncle". This would seem to be a very streight forward issue. Doesn't anyone use anything other than the "default" recording group. If so how did you add it to V5A16. Thanks |

V5A16. Adding a new recording group (for me, at least) was one of the most baffling things about MythTV. Here's the way I've been doing it: 1. Record something -- anything -- in an existing recording group (at first the only one that exists is 'default'). 2. During/after recording, go to the Watch Recordings list and highlight the record in the list. 3. Press 'i', then select 'Recording Options' from the menu. 4. Select 'Change Recording Group.' 5. You'll get a drop-down box with the existing group names and an editable field. In the editable field, type the name of a new group you want to create and then OK. That'll create the new recording group, and put that record in it. Repeat for any other groups you want to create. Now those recording group names will appear when you are scheduling records either with the MythTV gui or the web interface. I think this method is crazy, but have yet to find/figure out the 'correct' way, if there is one. Fortunately you only have to go through this once to set up each group, then you're done. |

One more tip: if I remember correctly, you have to have at least one recording existing/assigned to a particular group or that group disappears and you have to re-create it. It's been a while since I completely cleared out any of my recording groups though, so I might be wrong on that. |

Thanks for the reply. Actually if you go into the storage options when setting up a new recording. Then go to the select "default" group and right scroll it gives you the option to define a new group. Yep. LTOTTCO (Less Than Obvious To The Casual Observer). Oh well, I used to enjoy Easter egg hunts when I was a child. Just have to get used to doing it again.... |

Then go to the select "default" group and right scroll it gives you the option to define a new group. I remember coming across that, but unless I missed something, there was no way to change the name of the new group when creating it that way. You were stuck with "New Group" until you changed it later following a process similar to what I posted above. |
