Go ahead call me stupid if you like. I thought it was a good idea at the time and it should have worked, but...

In order to recover the 11G on my frontend that the /cache parition uses, I deleted my cache partition (/dev/hda3) and resized my myth partition (/dev/hda4) to include it. I commented out the /cache line in fstab. Everything was working fine. I had restarted the box many times any everything was great.

Power went out for 2 days and when I booted up, now my myth partition (dev/hd4) is ext2 not ext3, the only directories are cache and lost and found and "df -h" reportes the size as 11G not 150G like it should. cfdisk reports 150GB and ext2. I unmount it and e2fsck can't find any evidence it ever was ext3.

Why did knoppmyth destroy /dev/hda4. I mean I can understand my journal getting screwed up, but why does knoppmyth now see a 11G partition where it shouldn't. It seems to have reformatted the first part of /dev/hda4

Anybody know of some good recovery software. I've got most of the stuff on the partition backed up, but there is some stuff that Is going to take me many hours to reconstruct.

First off, KnoppMyth didn't destroy anything. Perhaps the power outage jacked your partition table?

The reason I thought that it was something residual in knoppmyth was because /dev/hda4 shows up in cfdisk (I'm not using fdisk because I can actually understand the size without a calcualtor in cfdisk) as a 150GB partition with the label cache. But when it is mounted it shows up as 11G which was the size of my old cache partition.

If the whole partition table has been corrupted --Expletive Deleted -- I really need to reinstall that frontend. I just won't feel secure re-formatiing the partition.

I'm just thrilled I separated my frontend and backend. That would have been alot bigger pain. I'll still be up a while tonight getting everything back to normal.

Maybe I'll just leave the /cache partition file alone this time.
