Post subject:  Serious A/V Sync Issues in Video Player Only

I'm using pvr350 to encode tv and am using the decoder out to TV. The card used to be in a windows box. Mpeg2 files created with this card previously immediately go out of sync when played on the myth box. Unlike most issues I've read about, my audio is way ahead, 7-15 seconds, of the video.

Tonight I took a .nuv tv recording from myth, which played fine on the myth box and played fine on my windows notebook. I edited the commercials out on a windows box and put the resulting mpeg2 file of the same screen size and video bitrate back on the mythbox. What played fine before now has the audio significantly faster than the video. If let go, the audio will eventually cease and often a crash will result.

I've tried various -autosync setting on the command to kick off mplayer from the video players settings page to no avail. Changing the file extension back to .nuv has no impact.

Playing my old videos and DIVx collection is a main goal. Any ideas from the more experienced. I've already updated mplayer and assorted codecs.

In a related question, I had hoped that transcoding a mpeg2 file created by the pvr350 would result in another mpeg2 file without commercials. Is this possible? I seem to be getting something that does not show in my listings and will not play, at least on my windows box. I do not see a way to play it in myth. Dumb question I'm sure but I not seen an answer in any of my searching so far.

Thanks

Since nobody seems to be able to help with my problem the way I've described it, let me add some more info and perhaps it will help.

If I type:
Code:
 mplayer -version
I get the following results:
Code:
MPlayer 1.0pre6-3.3.5 (C) 2000-2004 MPlayer Team

If I type:
Code:
/usr/local/bin/mplayer -version
I get the following results:
Code:
MPlayer 1.0pre7try2-3.3.5 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team

In my video configuration area in Myth I have manually entered the latter path: /usr/local/bin/mplayer as the source for mplayer.

Is this causing a confusion on my system? Are the two different versions being used by different parts of MythTV, for example, when TV recordings are played back is it using 1.0pre6-3.3.5 and then when I play Videos using the newer version? If so, could this be responsible for the A/V delay I'm getting.

Thanks for any ideas. I'm running out of time to make this fully functional before I have to move on.

I had sync problems with Mplayer and my pvr-350. Using Xine instead resolved these issues. I eventually got tired of the video quality of the 350, though and bought an fx5200.
