Post subject:  Version of knoppix from which Knoppmyth is remastered

Hi,

Which version of knoppix is knoppmyth R5A16 built from? I looked at the changelog but it didn't say.

The reason why I ask is that I'm trying to build a PVR setup on a (slightly) old compaq deskpro (800 Mhz). I plan to juice it up a bit with a Hauppauge PVR 350 (Haven't got it yet, it's on it's way from amazon). I tested knoppix 3.9 on it & X server (on vesafb) didn't work well (screen shows static, no discernable problems reported in logs). However, I dug out an old PHLAK CD I had (also remastered from an older version of knoppix) and that worked okay. so, I'm guessing something's broken in knoppix 3.9+ that causes this problem.

Is knoppmyth R5A16 based on an earlier version of knoppix (3.7, 3.6 or earlier)?

Thansk for your attention.

R5 is built from scratch. We only use the Knoppix scripts for hardware detections, etc. The steps to get the Hauppauge PVR cards working was work done by Dale and myself.

OK, so which version of knoppix are the scripts from? Have there been any major changes in the scripts over the course of the many versions?

Does X start up using Vesafb or with the driver corrsponding to the hardware in knoppmyth?

The scripts from 3.4. X will use VESAFB if the scripts don't know what video card you have. This however doesn't mean you cannot change what driver X uses. The 350 isn't a video card. Getting TV out working on the 350 has nothing to do with setting up Knoppix, KnoppMyth or Linux. Some have found the process extremely easy, some have failed using the same methods. Again, the 350 isn't a video card.
