I just stumbled across a python program called Hellanzb. It takes almost all of the effort out of downloading from usenet provided you use nzb files.

To install

apt-get install python
apt-get install twisted
apt-get install rar
apt-get install par2
(I think some of these are already installed by default in Knoppmyth)

finally download the source from http://www.hellanzb.com/distfiles/hellanzb-0.7.tar.gz

untar and run 'python setup.py install'

the last step is to setup the config file, hellanzb.conf
A sample comes with the tar ball, hellanzb.conf.sample

To use the program simply place the NZB file in the directory you set up and run 'hellanzb.py'.
