Hi All,

I first want to preface this by saying that I am a total newbie when it comes to Linux.

Now my issue......

After many trials and errors I have sucessfully installed KnoppMyth RA516. Picture is great and everything seems to be working, from a video standpoint, flawlessly, thanks to this forum and the many HOWTO's that are available.

But.....you knew this was coming, I cannot figure out how to get my sound from the capture card to output to my external source, in this case some computer speakers.

Speakers have been tested for functionality. They work.

I am running the IVTV 0.3.6o driver and everything seems to be working fine.. I am pretty confident that the sound works but what I do not know is if I have everything configured correctly. This would include both hardware and software configs.

So my questions are............

Is there some place in that I could get some information on running Alsamixer. I have searched all over the various forums and have seen all kinds of different documentation but nothing that matches my config, Alsamixer v1.08? My setting do not match the documentation.

i.e.= I do not have either the "Master" or "PCM" settings when I run it from the command line. So I do not know where I need to mute, I have settings like AC97 (Analog, I think) and SP/Dif (I sure is digital)

Or where can I run tp check the logs and see if it is loading the appropriate driver? Currently, dmesg does not give me any errors on start up, but is this the correct log to check.

My current hardware setup is this: Video In = Composite from STB to capture card; Audio In = RCA Y connector from STB to 1/8" jack into capture, Video Out = S-Video from Nvidia TV-Out to TV; Audio = 1/8" jack from SB Live Line Out (Analog) RCA Y connector TV.

At this point all I need is a little push in the right directions, I do not mind reading through forums or etc. I just not finding the HOWTO's that I think are relevent.

Sorry for the lengthy forum message but I wanted to make sure that I have covered everything.

try playing a wav file or an mp3 , $mplayer song.mp3
if you get nothing out. I wouldn't waste alot of time trouble shoting down load the latest alsa driver then 1) configure , 2) make , 3) make install 4)reboot

Hi gigantorpdx,

Try wasup's suggestion to play something to see if your card is functional. If the alsamixer works then the card should be happy and you should be able to play a cd / ripped cd.

My AC97 has no adjustments for the master and a couple of other settings which means that mostly F10 - F11 don't work. I say mostly because if you lower F10 to min, it will mute the audio. F9 does not work either. My snd is an Intel8x0. In alsamixer it was one of the IEC controls that I had to make mm.

Also, I found there are two versions of the driver, 8x0 & 8x0m I had to go into the /etc/modules and remove the "m" . alsaconf will allow you to rerun the configure script, basicly, enter, enter, enter, etc.

Maybe this gives you a place to poke.
Mike
