--> Before you upgrade make sure you have a good backup!!! I manually backed up all of /etc /root and /home since you never know when you're going to want one of the old files, even if just for comparison purposes. I also backed up some things I'd added to /usr/local/bin like my custom wrapper for mythfilldatabase.
--> Interesting issue #1 - I ended up having to boot from the CD using the " expert" option since without that it would hang trying to detect a scsi device for ultrastor.o which didn't exist. Worth keeping in mind for newbies having a problem.
--> Did the X setup stuff to get a conservative TV config, entering my own values for Horz (30-50) and Vert (60) sync ranges, setting color depth to 24bit, turning off the 1024x768 resolution, ...
--> Did an auto upgrade. This went very smoothly aside from an odd message appearing in the space which the progress bar is drawn. This was probably related to my lvm setup, so nothing to worry about. Popped the disk, rebooted, ...
--> X worked out of the box! I probably stood there staring at it for a good minute in shock and awe. Wow. Wow WOW! Wow WOW WOOHOO!!!! Good work guys!
--> At this point I had to take a little side excursion before entering the root password for setup, to get the LVM stuff going so that the restore wouldn't fail. I'll add notes to the Wiki " KnoppMythUpgradeWithLVM" page shortly, mostly things that you don't need to do aymore (no unmount, no dm-mod, deleting all the entries in fstab for partitions that belong to the vg). All I did was hit Alt-F2 and do the commands needed in another virtual console and it went smooth as silk.
--> Back on the mainline, everything went smoothly aside from Interesting issue #2 a disconcerting bit where after selecting Hauppauge and silver for my remote type, the script claimed it didn't know what to do about that remote! The good news is that the remote worked anyway. Weirdness... In any case, I selected the i686 module set and there's nothing else in my notes for the rest of the process... And then it was done... Sort of...
--> I ended up with the same miserable Interesting issue #3 where the HD-3000 causes the PVR-250 not to work for some reason. There I was with visions of HDTV goodness dancing in my head and I couldn't even watch SDTV... There didn't seem to be any problems in the log files this time. The PVR-250 was seen and seems to have been configured, but it just didn't want to work. This is a dependable old type 2 tuner that has always autodetected perfectly since day one, but the HD-3000 just doesn't play nice. I finally eneded up tearing the machine apart and pulling the HD-3000 card out to get it working.
Personal tweaks:
- Used apt-get to grab jed, xjed, apcupsd, ...
- Did the usual apcupsd setup (write up on the Wiki shortly)
- Replaced XF86Config-4 with my good one (it was working out of the box, but not really well).
- Figured out how to turn off the mythweb password and did it.
- Setup webmin following the page on the Wiki (and already made an update there).
- Setup an NFS export to my LAN for /myth and started the NFS server. Again the wiki page was very helpful.
That's a remarkably short list of issues, and #3 is the only one that wasn't a trivial work around. I am going to get to the bottom of that if tomorrow doesn't turn into complete mess (it's my weekend as Johnny on call).
R5A22 Rocks!!!

For the reference of others:
Code: # /usr/bin/ToggleWebSecurity.sh Usage: /usr/bin/ToggleWebSecurity.sh -all Toggle security on all Apache pages
/usr/bin/ToggleWebSecurity.sh -mythweb Toggle security on MythWeb only

BTW - My router is setup to block ALL incoming connections. I don't expose any of the machines in the house to the net. Any content I want to publish is hosted elsewhere. As a result the password was mainly just any annoyance.
Also, the write up for the apcupsd is now up on the Wiki: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=ApcUpsdHowTo

That's precisely why I made it so you could turn it off with one shell command

Hi,
Great notes! I had simular results.
I am stunned that with a 1.5 ghz Sempron, I am able to watch & listen to HD with the HD3000 card. I can't use deinterlace so motion gets the streaks but audio plays smooth.
I added freemind, mozilla, mozilla-thunderbird, saytime, openoffice.org, myspell-en-us, gcompris, cupsys & foomatic. So far have gotten a test page to print but no connection to the browser. Selecting Mode > file in "freemind" allows one to easily explore all the inards of KnoppMyth.
One flaw, the mythlink.sh script has an error in it somewhere and does not work properly. I replaced it with a copy from the forum and all was well.
Also only tried once, however can't install to a serial drive as was unable to get to the install menu for manual. Probably some obvious reason but didn't see it.
cesman and Dale with their developers did a great job! Each release just gets better and better. Thank you!
Mike

tjc,
I am having trouble with WEBMIN in a22. I am new to KnoppMyth and just installed the a16 the other day on my new system and had it up and running well with WEBMIN and LVM but since I didn't have much going on it yet I decided to up to the newest version.
So I did a new install (not an upgrade) and all went better than expected... Well kind of.
When I followed the Wiki for WEBMIN I get to the webmin page and login as root but everything I click on says "Access denied : User root is not allowed..."
Not sure what gives. I've tried a few things like resetting the password, etc..
Also, what can I do to make my video settings better? I am connecting to standard tv via SVIDEO through a nVidia FX5000. Everything looks good on the normal stuff but when I setup a webpage to view in the mythweb I can't read the text. It's not sharp enough to read. I've looked at the XF86Config-4 file but I can't make too much since of it for making it better.
Thanks.

They're really pretty straightforward, but there are a couple places it's assumed you know enough to substitute your own values. I didn't do anthing magic when I followed them yesterday and it worked for me. johnboy68 wrote: Also, what can I do to make my video settings better? You can make some adjustments with nvidia-settings and choose bigger fonts but a TV even at 800x600 is simply not going to give you the same kind of text sharpness you get with a monitor. Thy're optimized for different things.

Thanks,
That is what I figgured for the screen settings. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
As for the Webmin... I am at a lose. I am not new to Webmin as I use it on my other Linux boxes. Again, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I normaly install it myself so I was hoping it was something I was missing. I guess I will either re-install it or fix it...

What does your /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf look like? Particularly the host= and allow= settings, but preferably the whole thing. Did you restart the server after making the changes?

Hi,
I make mine work this way... (watch for word wrapping on copy / paste)
part of my "setup"
Code: #<code> #!/bin/sh # #fix /etc/ssh/sshd_conf sed 's/X11Forwarding no/X11Forwarding yes/g' /etc/ssh/sshd_config >test mv test /etc/ssh/sshd_conf
# #fix the webmin password cat /etc/passwd | grep root | cut -f1-2 -d: >test mv test /etc/webmin/miniserv.users
# #fix the webmin access to the whole subnet 192.168.x.0, change x for your setup sed 's/allow=127.0.0.1/allow=127.0.0.1 192.168.1.0/g' /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf >test mv test /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf # #give yourself a few extra minutes before auto logout sed 's/logouttime=5/logouttime=9/' /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf >test mv test /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf #<end code>
Girkers has better version but this works too.

I don't have any trouble logging in to Webmin. When I login everything looks normal. I can click on each tab (i.e. Servers, Netwroking, ect...) and see the different modules for each. It's when I click on something that I get the access denied. It's like the user root does not have permissions to any of the modules.
Is there a way to reset permissions? Or, what is the best way to un-install Webmin? Then I could just apt-get to install again.
mjl,
When I run your script I get (I saved as webminset.sh):
root@mythtv:/etc/webmin# sh webminset.sh
mv: cannot stat `test': No such file or directory
: command not found7:
mv: cannot stat `test': No such file or directory
: command not found12:
mv: cannot stat `test': No such file or directory
mv: cannot stat `test': No such file or directory
Thanks for all the help!

Good morning johnboy68,
I think your script error is line wrapping, as I use this a lot.
Check these three, as a basic rule, if the line reaches the right side of the screen, it is very likely that what you copy - pasted wrapped. If you see something hanging like a >test just hanging, then just delete the lf in front of it. A long line should end with a $ meaning there is more. Use can also use nano -w filename the help reduce that effect.
#fix the webmin access to the whole subnet 192.168.x.0, change x for your setup
sed 's/allow=127.0.0.1/allow=127.0.0.1 192.168.1.0/g' /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf >test
mv test /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf
#
#give yourself a few extra minutes before auto logout
sed 's/logouttime=5/logouttime=9/' /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf >test

I am really now!
I just did a complete re-install of KnoppMyth (not an upgrade. I did an auto install) and I have the SAME problem with Webmin. I can login and get to all the tabs but when I click on one I get the user root access denied message.
I didn't have this problem with a16....
Any other ideas?????
Thanks again.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what does this print?
Code: grep root /etc/passwd | wc -l
