Previously, i had a very stable R4V5 install of KnoppMyth on my machine, but I moved to a new location. After powering the machine on, everything worked normally, except I no longer was able to record sound or hear sound on any LiveTV. I was getting accurate guide data/picture but no sound.

I (probably a bad idea) decided to install the latest (at the time) version of Knoppmyth (R5A16) and got the same result. Picture was fine, sound worked fine on CD/DVD's but not on livetv nor recorded programs. However, sound worked on my older recordings (done before I moved).
I currently have COMCAST analog cable.

My current setup is:

AMD SEMPRON 2400
CASE ATHENATECH A100SC MicroATX
ROSEWILL 256MB PC2700 DDR
Nvidia Geforce mx 4000 64MB AGP

With R5A16 do I have to recompile a newer version of IVTV? When I used R4V5 it was necessary.

Well R5A16 does have newer version of ivtv than R4V5, but it's still not the newest. If you go ahead and go to R5A22 it has the latest ivtv. you are deffinately looking in the right place though as that type of problem has to be an ivtv problem. Overall I would try R5A22 (not a big deal if you have a cable modem with that comcast ) It not only has newer ivtv, but lots of other new goodies as well.

Just finished with an install of R5A22, and i am experiencing the same symptoms. I can get sound through the cd/dvd drive (playing cd audio) but nothing from live TV.

I really miss my mythbox.... any ideas?

use ivtvctl to make sure the card is not muted.

try turning internal audio controls on and off in the setup menus.

check your bitrates for the audio part of your recording, some sound cards only like certain bitrates.
