I am trying to get MythGame working. I have checked the forums and found many references to various approaches, such as:

http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MythGameEmulationSetup
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MythGameHowTo
and
http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MythGameHowTo0.18

My problem is that I am not sure which of these to follow. I don't know if they apply to KnoppMyth (I have R5A16). I also found some info on getting and storing the catver.ini file, which I have gotten from
http://www.mameworld.net/catlist/.

Can someone provide some overall guidance? I tried following some of these type of pages when getting my remote working, and I think I messed things up initially before I figured it out, because those instructions might no have applied to R5A16.

Thanks,

Mike

The links provide enough of a guideline and do relate to R5A16. MythGame in R5A22 is different and the links don't apply. In terms of XMAME and ZSNES other than ROMs, you should be set...

Thanks for the reply. Here is where I am. I can see the roms in the MythGame screen. I set up MythGame with Utilities/Setup>Setup>Media Settings>Game Settings. When I run the frontend in an xterm, this is what I get when I try to run a game:

The game doesn't come up. The screen just flashes. I saw the info in the MythTV docs for MythGame saying that xmame won't launch without a joystick, but I have a USB Gamepad connected and is seems to test OK with jstest. I do notice however that the frontend says above that "joystick disabled."

I also notice that the log says that it is trying 1 of 5 attempts to connect to the backend server, but doesn't appear to be getting a response. Is this the problem?

I also noticed a post from someone saying that MythGame won't work without first setting up a player (in R5A22, I have A16). They gave the path to do this as Utilities/Setup>Setup>Media Settings>Game Settings> Game Players, but I don't have the "Game Players" choice. Something new in A22?

It get's a response, it just doesn't publish it. You only have to wory if you get (Try 2 of 5) and the others.

That is new in A22, that path wasn't there in A16.

It would appear that knoppmyth r22 is using the newer svn myth builds. Mythgame for currently requires a seperate romdb to provide a list of games etc for it to function correctly. This romdb which is stored in the main myth mysql database has only just been made public in the last couple of days. On top of that the mythgame provided with r22 will not work out of the box with this romdb, mythgame will need to be updated.
