Is there any way to keep the new mythgame? If not, I guess i'll just have to wait until 0.19 is properly released

Please don't use R5A22. If you are doing a new install, please use R5A16. I accidently included a SVN version in R5A22. According to Isaac, there is "no guarantee" this will smoothly upgrade to 0.19. If you are using R5A22, we are working on a way to safely revert MythTV to 0.18.2. My humble apologoies for the mix up. Cecil |

SVN = subversion, which is a version control program like CVS. Searching wikipedia for SVN gives... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subversion_%28software%29 |

You say do not use this for a new install, what about for upgrading? can I upgrade my RA15 to it or should I not use it at all? Thanks |

I'm pretty sure Cecil meant the larger sense of install i.e. - install or upgrade. Perhaps it would have been clearer to say "If you're not already using it, please don't start." |

I was interested in getting the r5a22 because I wanted to use the hd5000 which is supported out of the box with the newer version. What are the problems with svn. What will happen if we use it? |

To clarify for everyone that is still unclear: SVN = the development trunk of mythtv. This is the software that is actively being developed by the mythtv developers on any given day. By the very nature of open source, it is usually possible to download the latest code directly via SVN (or CVS) and compile the "bleeding edge" version of any given software package. "Bleeding Edge" means that you get the software in whatever state it happens to be in at the time you downloaded it. It may have new, untested bugs or it might corrupt your data. Generally speaking, it is not safe to use SVN code on a production system. That said, MythTV is quite mature and generally that means that SVN code will be, at least, usable. So, what cesman is saying is, DON'T use R5A22 for installs or upgrades because he cannot guarantee that the SVN code that was inadvertently included will migrate correctly to the next version of MythTV (0.19). To summarize: 1) If you've upgraded/installed R5A22 already, WAIT until cesman/Dale come out with a way to revert from it back to the correct release version of MythTV. Don't try to reinstall/downgrade yourself until more info comes out as you QUITE PROBABLY will lose data. 2) If you are doing a new install or are upgrading from R5A16 or earlier, use R5A26. Clear? Questions? |

Yeah, I had one question. Is R5A26 ready for public consumption or just for testers? The mirrors are all confused right now. Some have A16, some A22, and some A26. Which one should us "regular guys" use? Edit: Oops, I just caught up with the announcement forum where it says A26 is ready for public consumption. Apparently it is so fresh that the mirrors haven't all caught up yet. More kudos to Cecil and Dale. |
