Post subject:  Using different version of Mythth for Backend/Frontend?

I have installed Mythtv based on Wilsons FC4 guide because i wasn't aware about Knoppmyth at this time.

However my target is to use this box as backend server only and build a "family proven" client based on an epia board.

The backend server is based on mythtv-suite-0.18.1-55.at.i386.rpm. Because configuring mythtv (especially the channel configuration/EPG) was a nightmare, i would like to keep it as it is.

For the client i would like to use knoppmyth because it seemed to have epia support.

I did not find any answer if it is possible to run different versions of myth. Of course I'm sure it would not be possible to run version 0.17 and 0.18 .

But is the 0.18.x branch compatible ?

Best regards
Uwe

normally you can't run different versions between fe/be, but you should be able to use knoppmyth R5A16 with your setup, however R5A22 won't work cause of version differences.

I went through this recently...look at http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6691 . 0.18.1 and 0.18.2 use a different version of their networking protocol so are incompatible. I had to compile myth from source on my Breezy boxes, but it did work like a charm. HTH,
