I want to make my KnoppMyth TV box more of a Multi-Media center. I want to add a web browser and xwindows, also the ability to play mp3's from that desktop. How do I apt-get xwindows from a fresh new install? |

It is X or X Window, not XWindows. KnoppMyth already includes all you want. |

KnoppMyth will NEVER include KDE(I do love KDE), KDE makes no sense on a set-top box. If you choose to add KDE you can break your system. |

ok kde and xwindows are two entirely different things. X Xfree86 whatever you want to call it is installed kde is not, and some have had difficulties installing it. Knoppmyth is designed to be lightweight settopbox not full desktop, you may want to look at installing mythtv on top of a full distro if that is what you want. However mythtv can play mp3 files and show pictures and play videos, and rip dvd's and record playback, and pause live tv. The only thing it doesn't have at this point is a browser, but knoppmyth R5 will have mythbrowser. |

I cannot say that I do understand what you are trying to do.. You want X which is already installed. You want a web browser, Lynx is included. You want to play mp3, MythMusic is included. What else do you want? |

haha.. ok.. I'd like a browser that actually shows pictures? I'd like an X that I can install a Mail client on? I'd like to have the Myth Front end running, and if I see a link or see a movie preview that has a website I'd like to be able to flip over and hit the web. I'd like a better x running at the same time, as the Myth Front end. |

Well, X is X it doesn't get any better. As root: apt-get update apt-get install mozilla Then configure MythTV not to run full screen. Setup->Appearance(I think...) |

Yes you can, you'd need to run two inntances of X. You can run it from an XTerm or add a button to Myth. You can edit .fvwm/.fvwm2rc and add it to the menu. You can also have multiple desktop and slide between myth and mozilla. I suggest copying fvwm2rc before making any changes. |
