Cesman - you said in a previous post:

If you are running R5A22, DON'T upgrade to R5A26

What do us R5A22 people do? Will there be a separate fix/upgrade for us? Or do we need to a completely new install? Or just hold on for a bit? Or are we just stuck...

Depends on how you use it. I have A22 running self contained on one box, and it works fine. It may have networking issues, so don't use it for networking. If you have a good running setup don't mess with it. I plan to install A26 on a new hard drive to play with it, but won't blow away the setup of A22 on the current hard drive.

This is fine for now, but I don't really want to be stuck on the same version of Knoppmyth forever. I have a plan for upgrading Knoppmyth, but I'm not 100% sure it will work. I have my recordings on a second HD so I can just leave them alone. My plan is to back up the DB as described here. I will then copy the DB backup to a USB flash disk which already contains all of my customized files (lircrc, etc.) I should then be able to install (not upgrade) R5A26 and restore the DB as described here. Does anyone know if this will work?

Wait for the next release with an official 0.19. The issuue with R5A22 was that I accidently included an SVN version of MythTV. Isaac stated, "there is no guarantee tat it will upgrade cleanly to 0.19". I've updated to 3 different versions on top of R5A22 w/o issue. Thise leads me to believe that updating to 0.19 should be an non-issue.

Well I have some problems with my 22 install.

MythMusic doesn't work. I put in a CD and the system sort of locks up.
Can't rip music either.

When I put in a DVD nothing happens.
I have to go into the optical discs and start up mythdvd. Is that normal? I have the menu item selected for auto start when DVD is inserted.
After I play one DVD or part of a DVD things get odd in the menus. Certain options can't be accessed. I have to go through the apperance setup to get them options back.

I never got DVI out ot work but I am sure that was something else completly.

Playback of recordings from ABC is awfull skips and freezes with bad audio. The audio studders and dropps.

Doesn't happen on any other channel I record from.

Would an update help me?

Found a fix for the ABC programs issue... turned of deinterlace playback and checked extra audio buffering. I can now watch LOST and follow what is going on. Fixed stammering video and audio.

Still have to run through the apperance menu after I use xine. Any ideas on that one?

This is a long-running known issue with xine. I found this thread that I believe discusses the problem and the fix:

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... xine+focus

Rather than doing that, I usually play a video via MythVideo, which returns focus to MythTV (or something) and all buttons work properly thereafter.

OK, Cool.. I can "wait" on my knoppmyth box.. although, I was wanting to install a copy of the Myth-Frontend on a generic Debian machine.. primarily to do program "edits" from a real desktop, rather than sitting in front of the "tube". (It has myth-frontend version 0.18.1-3) I'm getting an error message:
Quote:
The server uses network protocol version 18, but this version understands only version 15. Make sure you are using compatible versions of the backend and frontend.

Is there a version of the frontend out that is compatible with the version on R5A22?

My "Plan B" approach would be to install R5A22 - front-end only - on a separate old hard drive. (Not my first option! .. not really intending the machine to be "MythTV only")

Thanks!

I suspect those of you who upgraded to R5A22, and have not done a backup since, should just be able to just upgrade to a different version (e.g. R5A26).

That assumes that you don't care about anything you have done since then (e.g. recordings or settings changes)

Will try that... thanks.

Had an odd recroding yesterday.. So i guess its off to search the forums again.

Using mythweb from another computer I wanted to check if lost was recorded... Its info shows up put the picture is not there. Over in the file size colum there is a "B".

Last night was the first time I had to intervene in a schedule conflict. The show that was on after it was ona different channel so I told the recorder to start that one one minute late. Well it recorded the other show but the info is not there. The show is fine thou.

Will look about before I make a thread.

So. I went with "Plan B". I found an old 2.5 GB drive to use.. whaaa! Actually, that's too small for "Auto Install" to work.. that just falls over trying to setup the partitions! But "Manual Install" works fine.

Followed the hints from the wiki page.. http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... nlyInstall

Works pretty good! .. although, I'm surprised about the relative high lag time! Two things I see.. 1. During "edit session" the lag time between hitting a key and the response... between a second or two. 2. During "Watch TV" or "Watch Recorded Program".. there's a slight stutter in the playback about every two seconds or two. Seems like there should be some buffering that I could adjust, but I'm not finding it.

I did some "network tuning" by replacing an old 10 Mbps hub with a 10/100 Mbps switch.. that didn't seem to help.

I notice that the Cecil's announcement for R5A30 also states...

Hi Brian,
It's not worth looking for a migration path until after MythTV 0.19 has been released. If you are on A22, then you've got the MythTV 0.19 database schema, and you can't really revert back. So wait for 0.19 to be released, then for a KnoppMyth to be built with the official 0.19, and then a path forward should become clear. Until then, you're actually ahead of most of us.

Just an update. Someitmes the starting up a mythvideo works but other times it doesn't so Ihave to return to the apperance menu.

Will try to note exactly what is happening at the time and report back.
