Post subject:  R5A22: PVR-150 and PVR-150MCE - Tuner 2 won't record etc.

Hi friends:

Well, my R5A22 install is coming along. My biggest problem is that my 2nd tuner
doesn't seem to want to record and manually scheduled recordings don't seem to
want to work either. Input source is via zap2it.com from SDTV standard cable.

Tuner 1: PVR-150 (set up as /dev/video0/tuner0)
Tuner 2: PVR-150MCE (set up as /dev/video1/tuner1)

I think both tuners are tuning fine. I base this on the fact that when I press "c"
while watching TV, it seems to change to the program the other tuner is tuned to.
Am I supposed to be pressing "Y" instead, for some reason?

If I press "R" during livetv from tuner0, it will record succesfully, though the screen
goes black for about 5 seconds while it "starts" recording.
If I press "R" during livetv from tuner1, it also says "Record blah blah" on screen,
but it doesn't actually record anything.

If I manually schedule any type of recording, it does not record.

I've done some searching of the forums using terms like "doesn't record" or "second tuner"
and "not recording" but couldn't find much that was relevant. Can anyone suggest
where to start with this? I am fairly new to Linux, so please S-P-E-L-L it out
as much as possible.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I can answer your question but I have a comment and a question. First, pressing c during livetv changes the input on that card (like from the tuner to svideo). Pressing y changes to the other card. The question I have is why is the PVR-150MCE set to tuner 1? It would seem to me that it should be set to tuner 0, but I'm not sure.

Sorry, I actually DID have the 150MCE set to tuner0 as well. That was just a typo.
Thanks for pointing that out guys. It still won't record on the second tuner, though.
Can anyone help? I'm sooooo close!

Let me correct that. It won't record on either tuner now. When I hit "R" to record
a show I'm watching, it says it's recording, but the show never shows up in the recorded programs
list. Furthermore, any shows that I did manage to record before now longer show up
in the recorded programs list either. What on earth is going on? Can't anyone please suggest
at least where to start troubleshooting? I know less than nothing about SQL.
Anyone? tjc, where are ya when I need ya?

Hi shplad,

You may have to restart the backend, if you had recordings and then disappear...
Try this:
Code:
sudo sh /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop
sleep 7
sudo sh /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend restart

I haven't gotten any recording, (manual, scheduled, otherwise) to work for me since I have done a new install of r5a22.
My frontend and backend are on the same box.
I may just try the new r5a26 to see if this helps.

Thanks to everyone for help on this.

Mike:

thanks for the suggestions, but all that happened each time I rebooted the machine, so...it doesn't work.

Where do I go next? I don't have a clue how to troubleshoot this kind of problem.

Thanks

Okay, well I found the time to test /dev/video1, the second tuner card in Linux.

I ran a "cat /dev/video1 > test.mpg" and Xine played back the video with no problems at all.
So I assume this means my problem is within Myth itself?

Someone on another forum suggested I check the mythfrontend logs.

All looked normal, until I went to press "y" to change tuner cards. Then I got:

Code:
TV::HandleStateChange() Error, failed to start RingBuffer on backend. Aborting.

Can anyone suggest why Myth can't create the ringbuffer file for the second tuner?
