Post subject: | Preparing to Upgrade R5A16 To R5A26 |
I have read every post I could find that covered upgrading. I have not found anything that I felt would stop me from upgrading from R5A16 to R5A26. My R5A16 is working well but I would like to upgrade so I can take advantage of the new features that are in R5A26. My question is should I clear out my scheduled recordings and dump any recorded shows? I had an earlier issue when I changed my channel line up and got that all smoothed out by dumping the mythconverg data and running mythtv-setup again. I have what I will call a clean knoppmth backup. I ran that immediately after I recreated the mythconverg data. So is there any thing I should do first? or should I just drop the cd in, run the upgrade and follow the instructions from the pamphlet? Any feedback would be appreciated. ![]() |

I just did the upgrade and found the improvements worth the "risk" Everything went fine and I didnt lose anything I had saved. I didnt have anything scheduled to record but did have a few recordings. |

Frankly the risk is pretty darn low. Once I've made sure my backups are current I don't worry about losing recordings or DB info in an upgrade. just extras that I've added on, and that means a couple hours of reviewing my notes and fiddling around. On my production box I've upgraded, tested, and downgraded back to the original version in an afternoon or evening, |

Hi jimmyjoemeeker02, I also as with the other gentlemen, have upgraded without issue. Just be sure to do the backup from the KnoppMyth menu first. Only place you would have issues is if you have a "non standard" install so the hda 1,2,3,4 are something else. May also want to copy your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to the /home/mythv before the backup, especially if you have tweaked it. Enjoy Mike |
