hi all

I am working on my new pvr 500 and have been following one of the guides in the forum, I am at the point of copying the HcwMakoA.ROM file from the cdrom. The cd I have is version 2.9 and when I open the pvr 150500 folder I have another folder labeled A2 and two other files, hcwa2.cat and HcwDriverInstall.exe. Opening the A2 folder shows 9 files, two of which are HcwMakoB.ROM and HcwMakoC.ROM but no HcwMakoA.ROM.
I also checked in the 250 folder. Can someone please point me to this file.

See the IVTV wiki and search fro "firmware". The are links there to download the recommended versions from Hauppauge. Actually here is a direct link to that page: http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware

If you care using the R5A22 or greater, the needed firmware is already included.

hi, I installed r5a26 as cesman suggested. watching live tv is not working ,that is all I have tried at this point, I have used mythtv-setup to mess with different configs and also installed the card in a winxp box and installed beyondtv to see if that would work( it did work with both tuners). This is the output from sed -n...

until about three days ago this machine worked with r5a16 and a wintv-401 and had a great picture.

That sure looks right. Did you set up both as MPEG devices, video0 - tuner0 and video1 - tuner0, and make the appropriate association from your "video source" to both tuner0's? Did you check the connections to make sure that you're on the TV co-ax and not the FM one? Presumably you've selected the right frequency set since you had the 401 working before....

What do you see when you try to watch live TV? Snow? Black screen? ???

mythtv setup:
under cature cards I have MPEG:/dev/video0 and MPEG: /dev/video1, both are set to tuner0 as the default input. What does look odd, to me anyway, is the input connections section it lists two tuners for each device.

input connections:
/dev/video0 tuner0 cableTV
/dev/video0 tuner1 cableTV
/dev/video1 tuner0 cableTV
/dev/video1 tuner1 cableTV

the cable connection is the same one I used to test the winxp box and it is on the tv connection not the radio. I don't know what frequency you are talking about but zap2it worked and the program guide is right. As far as what I see the screen is black with multi colored static, the onscreen display is working. when you first start live tv I get a display in the upper left corner that says "1:tuner0" not sure if that means it is using dev/video1 tuner0 but that would also seem strange why not dev/video0 tuner0.

Take out the extra associations to the tuner1's, that can only confuse things.

It's like page 3 of the general setup under mythtv-setup, if you've got us-cable try us-cable-hrc.

That's normal and correct. If you hit 'Y' it should switch to 2:tuner0.

first of all thanks for the help. I don't see a way to delete the extra tuners in the input connections section without removing the card from the capture card section, I did remove the extra device from the capture card section just to see but no difference. I changed to us cable hrc, no change and when I hit the y it doesn't change tuners( stays on 1:tuner0).

That would be my next move, say yes to both questions at the start of mythtv-setup, and do a clean configuration.

"tuner: type set to 4 (NoTuner) by ivtv i2c driver #1 "

I am getting this same Comment in my dmesg for my pvr500. Both tuners show this.

When the tv runs it looks like a black static and no sound.

Yes I did all the above...

Changed the tuner Freq. ( us-cable-hrc )
Removed all the cards and then reset them..
Reloaded the whole System.
Changed the actual card to use PCI 1 instead of PCI 2 on the Motherboard. (THAT chaintech 7NIF2 is NICE ).

I know you can use the set ivtv tuner = ?? (It is an old way of conifguring the tuner) but I have no clue what to use as the Tuner..

Here is the dmesg

This is a NEW card. These don't save anything in the card for later use do they.. I don't think so.. Maybe I could try putting it into my winblows machine..

Anyway, Sorry for the short post! Normally, I would put all this stuff but I figured you guys would assume I did...

Knoppmyth ROCKS!

Hi Snake,

I've send you a private message. The tveeprom section is missing in your dmesg! Can you use the sed command? The first post in this thread has used it. tjc wrote and pointed to tips, dealing with error logs.
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles

Code:
sed -n '/= START INIT IVTV/,/=  END INIT IVTV/p' </var/log/dmesg | more

Strange, few people have Hauppauge 500 cards, while tuners are not recognized by tveeprom... :?:

Ok here you go...

Also, Just for grins.. I used the old "options ivtv tuner=47,47 and it WORKED.. BOTH TUNERS but the channels are not viewable after channel 15.

Hi,

I've had a look into the source code of tveeprom (as provided by ivtv). All Samsung tuners are set to TUNERS_ABSENT which is type 4 in the log files. Maybe Hauppauge has delivered a series with this type of tuner?

What to do next?

I would wait for comment of people with more experience than F.
Personally I would look for another type of Hauppauge card look into the ivtv mailing list. I wonder whether one can have any clue from the box of the card if it would work with ivtv 0.4.0 or not.

Any correction or comment of this Samsung stuff appreciated.

F.
