Post subject: | newbie questions |
I just setup for the first time my system with R5A26. This is my first time using linux and mythtv. My capture card is a wintv hauppauge pvr150 and I'm using a ATI remote wonder (usb rf receiver). I could not figure out how to get the hauppauge remote to work. Some questions: some of this is probably linux related and not a mythtv problem, so please forgive me... I have a ext. usb harddrive I want to copy some movies, pics and mp3s from to my myth system. How do I access this drive to copy to my myth system after I plug it in? How do I get all of the buttons working on the ATI remote? I'm using the kernel module, not lirc (it refused to work with the remote, so I gave up troubleshooting and used the kernel module, worked great the first time). How do I add some web streams (radio websites, like shoutcast, etc.) to myth. Example: liveireland.com Is there a newbie list of items to do to configure myth for optimal use? Do I need to configure anything out-of-the-box to get it to play DVDs, mp3, etc. (I haven't tried anything other than the tv, web, weather so far) Last question, I promise: I have a second harddrive I want to add to the myth system for increased storage for recording tv and other other stuff. After I connect it (second IDE drive) and reboot, how do I get linux/myth to see it? Is there a way to make the new drive an 'addition' to /myth so myth will use it automatically? So far, MythTV (and knoppmyth) are great. I had been using myhttpc for a while, but this is definitely better in my opinion. Thanks to all that make this possible. |

I just went through this (wifey picked up a 200GB for $39 on "black friday") and the writeup is very good: http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=AdditionalHarddriveHowTo You're going to add the drive, create a volume group (VG) add the new drive to it, copy your stuff from /myth to the new VG. Then you delete the original myth partition from the first drive, add that space to the VG, and now you've got lots of space. I have 400GB \myth which is on the new 200GB and the remainder of the original 250GB drive. All of those "how to" documents on the WiKi are good. |

I'm going to try this tonight and I'll let you know how it goes. Any thoughts on the other items I asked about? |
