Not sure if I should post this here or not... but here goes anyway I just installed slimserver on my mythtv box, this allows my to remove one box out of the server room. It was quite easy and just worked out of the box, at the moment the music is still on the old machine and I have just nfs mounted, but I will move the disk into the myth box shortly. (Please delete if you feel it is not appropriate, but it was something I wanted to do and had not seen any other posts on it.. maybe for good reason, they have all been deleted ![]() Thought I should add that I have a fairly fast box with a pvr350 so have lots of cpu cycles to spare, if you are have a slow box and/or software decoder then you wont want to be doing this. Oh and don't complain here that you have problems because it not really part of Knoppmyth |

I have knoppmyth on a lowly via MII13000 (1.3GHz VIA, but really probably closer to an 800MHz P4). This includes front and back ends. I also run the slimserver software on it and have two squeezeboxen. My music is stored on a different disk to the TV and video. The slimserver uses a roughly constant 1-3% of the CPU - except when rescanning (when its a pig). So its really no impact at all. In fact, the whole server side of the operation takes next to no CPU load so I am adding a second encoder card. Playing video takes up to 40% CPU - thats the killer for me. |

For those using Slimserver with Knoppmyth, what was method for installing the rpm? I have never run anything based on Debian before so obviously have not had to use alien. Is there a .deb out there that is available and I just can't find it? Any tips or details would be appreciated. Thanks, |

Thanks, This shouldn't be here - should be in linux section. I didn't install from RPM, I installed from the perl source code (.gz) which you can get from the slim devices website. Installation instructions are included - its very simple as perl files simply need to be copied to the right place, a config file edited and the server started at boot. |

Don't worry... I wont post 'what I thought might be useful' sort of thing again. I realised it was in the wrong place after I re-read it, but there is no delete option. Please delete the thread since it is the wrong place. |

Not only did you post in the wrong forum, but you also failed to tell us what the #3|| "slimserver" is. By reading the thread I think it is a music streaming program. But I'm not 100%. |

In that case then, I'll jump in ![]() Slim Server is the free music streaming backend for the Slim Devices music player. http://www.slimdevices.com/ It streams music to the devices, and Windows and Linux PC's too. It also allows the devices to change the streams, or play the same streams as other devices. Mephi |
