Post subject:  EPIA M motherboard + PVR 250 instructions

I've got R4V2 working with hardware mpeg decoding and I'm planning on posting the instructions, but would like someone with an EPIA M10000 and someone with an EPIA M60000 to test it before I post. This will hopefully save mistakes.

First come first served, although please don't ask to be a tester if you don't have a couple of hours to spare as it will delay others getting to play.

thanks
Pete

Oh btw on my EPIA M10000 I can watch live tv at 720x578 with low cpu load and 1024x768 res :D

Post subject:  m6000, pvr250/freestyle and an hour or so a night

i am about to give up on the diskless frontend concept. i can't keep the backend, which is also my desktop, stable. so, i would like to use my m6000, pvr250/freestyle, 160 gb samsung as a frontend/backend. i will not be using lirc and do not have my dd 5.1 amp setup yet. so i can test all but those things. let me know.

in my post above, the email address for mceachrw is wrong and my account is locked. send an email to mceachrw at kingwoodcable dot net if you would like me to test your instructions.

Does anyone know if Pete has made these instructions available yet? I would be happy even to have a rough version of these instructions, anything to improve the picture quality on my M1000/PVR250 :P

Post subject:  Still Working the kinks out

As I've not posted about this for a month I think an update is needed.

Sparky and Upplepop have both tried the instructions and sent through amendments as problems were found.

The instructions now install for viewing, as far as I know, but I've found a problem with the alsa9 sound, it crashes myth music (I know mythmusic uses oss /dev/dsp, but I've been using the oss compt part of alsa! so I want to sort this first before releaseing them.

bye

Post subject:  EPIA M motherboard + PVR 250 instructions

Hi Pete

I have an EPIA M10000 & and I am trying various TV cards, WinTV PCI, PVR 250 & PVR350

I have been using FREEPIA with this system previously but managed to get an .ISO of KnoppMyth and i am installing it as I write this message

I would be more than happy to carry out some testing if it helps as I am in the process of configuring 3 different systems as PVR's to record from 2 terrestrial feeds and 1 satelite feed

The other systems area an ASUS terminator 2 (P4 2.8 +PVR350) & Asus Digimatrix for the sat feed with Livevew TV card (P4 + frame grabber - no encoder), the systems are currently use Windows XP but I would like to move them all to Linux as I would like to be able to configure the 3 systems to eventually connect into one frontend wich would be modded Xbox connected to TV and then to wireless network via Linksys wireless G card (Can use ethernet if wireless is not quick enough as already wired up)

Regards

Myles

Hi Pete,

Have you got any closer to releasing these instructions?

Thanks

Post subject:  update

hi,

sorry, still can't get mythmusic to run properly, keeps segfaulting but won't produce a core dump which makes it quite hard to debug.

Also my raid array had a hd fail and so my mythboxes hd was pulled to replace it.

I should be returning to working on it in the next few days.

bye

well the most common cause for a segfault on a epia-m system is using the i686 binaries.

Post subject:  i686

The M10000 runs i686 code fine, and I've recompiled it with the optimisations recommended for the cpu by via. I think the problem is different versions of the OSS emulation on the sys. I'm going to try rebuilding soon using the apt-get alsa rather than from src.

well if I'm not mistaken the m10000 is the nemiah core and they added the sse instructions in that chip, so that is why it works with the i686 code. Any earlier via chip like the m8000 or m6000 will not.
