Post subject: | Cannot Connect to Backend / Channel Scan |
Hi, Bit of a Linux n00b here, thought MythTV looked pretty good so decided to give it a go. I have a small box with a Twinhan 3020 DVB-T card installed, and when I added the card in mythtv-setup it seemed to have been detected ok. My problem is: the scan for channels button is grayed out, I cannot select it for some reason. Any ideas? Also, when I try to view Live TV I am greeted with the error "cannot connect to master backend server". I have checked the backend server IP in the setup program and it is configured as 127.0.0.1, so I can't see what the problem is. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. I am in the UK if that is relevant. Many thanks, Sam |

Firstly, which version of knoppmyth have you installed? Secondly, in mythtv-setup, have you added a video source & input? Basically have you gone through all the other main menu's before going to the channel editor? |

Post subject: | no channel scan |
Hi, I hope i'm not kidnapping this post... I'm using R5A26 with hauppage PVR-350 - no channel scan buton either (it's greyed out). I set it up manually using a local channel guide with the channel numbers, but fine-tuning would be a great thing to add. Any way to make the tuning available from the mythtv-setup ? Thanks! |

![]() All the guides sometimes leave little parts out that us NOOBS just dont have the experience to figure out on our own or maybe I'm just an idiot. 1) You MUST sign up for a Zap2It account or other channel service FIRST. http://labs.zap2it.com I think is the site. . 2) Now in the Video Source Setup screen. Make sure you give it a proper name so it doesnt come up in the dropdown menu on the next Video input screen as a blank looking as if nothing is there...Put your login/pass and click the "Retrieve ..." button right below. If it goes 50% and quits on you with nothing coming up in then it means you put your username or password in Incorrectly. If you did it correctly you will see in the drop down below the Retrieve button whatever zipcode and channel provider that you chose when you signed up for the Zap2It Account. 2) Next in the Video inputs screen you MUST point your video input to that correct source. Select your source (mine was Television). IT currently should say Television => (None). Select this option. If you did the previous 2 steps correctly you will see whatever you called the Video source in the drop down. Select this and whatever other options you may need. When finished It should say Television => "Zap2IT" where "Zap2It" is the name you gave the video source in the "Video Source" setup screen. 4) Once this is done you hit Finish and then ESC. Dont worry about the Channel Setup option. This will be available to you after you download all the neccesary channels later. After you press escape and if your internet connection is working properly you will see it download the first 2 weeks of channel info. WARNING: If you were like me and reinstalled several times I am pretty sure Zap2It lets you get the channel info the first time at normal download speed. However everytime after that the speed doesnt get above 2.0 K/s for bandwidth conservation purposes obviously. (that and after you download the first 2 weeks you only incrementally download a couple days at a time so high dl speeds are not needed anymore) First time on a cable connection it took me about 5 mins to get all the channel info. 2nd time it took me about an hour. |

Post subject: | Channell scan still not available |
Even if you did that, the channel scan button is still greyed out, right? Problem is, that not everyone can subscribe to zap2it service, because they only provide service to US (correct me if I'm wrong). There's a lot of us out there that have to rely on the old channel scan. Plus, if there's any regional/amateur TV stations around, the zap2it or similar service might not have the station in their listings... I am still looking for a way to run the scan on my aerial input using mythtv, anyone? |

Whoopps sorry...And there is the reason everyone hates us americans because we think the world revolves around us. I forgot about other tv's and channels and stuff. Try using r5A30.1 I think i saw a bunch of other ocuntries on there. I'm not sure Yes you are right channel buttons are still greyed out. Did you try just signing up to a bogus service ie Zap2It. Then going back into the Channel Setup. I think after you do that is when the buttons are no longer greyed out. Then (I think) you can do your channel scan |

Post subject: | Can any one confirm or deny? |
Thanks for the post! ;-) So what I'm hearing is that everyone pretty much has got the "SCAN" function greyed out. I wonder if it only applies to Hauppauge tuners or others too... One thing that I'm really missing is a good doco for the MythTV system, but I guess the software is still on the leading/bleeding-edge and doco isn't always the priority at that time... Thanks all for help so far! |

There is plenty of docmentation, for example - http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.html Or the KnoppMyth Wiki - http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/ Most people just aren't very good at finding it. ![]() If you're aware of those and all the other sources and don't think they're good enough, then dive right in and help us make it better. I'm not suggesting that you write hundreds of pages or even dozens. Start small, say by proof reading and correcting the grammar and logical flow of one page on the wiki, or writing up one new procedure that you worked out, or cleaning up the markup on one page of directions that you followed to make it easier to read. |
