Post subject:  Transcoders Profile Missing

I really hate asking for help, but I've Googled every permutation of the words transcoders, profile, missing, etc. and can't find an answer.

I've installed Knoppmyth several times, and everything works fine EXCEPT:

There are no recording profiles. It only has the new custom profile option. I really want to be able to transcode, but without the transcoders profile, I can't. What do I do?

Thanks in advance.

Same thing here. I tried simply making a group called Transcoders, but that didn't do the trick.

I used to have the proper recording profile groups in R5A16, but since installing R5A30 from scratch I haven't been able to figure out how to get them.

Backup and auto upgrade to R5A30.2. After you have completed the upgrade process, run move_recordings.sh. Any settings you have will be gone but your recordings will be kept and the default from the factory settings will be there... Sorry for the oversight. Once you are happy, ensure you backup.

Post subject:  No dice

The move_recordings shell script didn't do anything. The problem is not that I HAD the settings ever in the first place: I'm new to KnoppMyth, and did a clean auto-install of R5A30.2 on pretty standard hardware (Athlon XP 2100, PVR-150, PATA hard drive, etc). I don't know if possibly doing a clean install of a previous version would help... I'll try finding a copy somewhere (if it exists) and then doing the upgrade, though I have a dubious feeling.

Is there any possibility of a known fix? Are there any files or logs or database dumps that I could post, so that maybe this bug can be quashed? Again, thanks in advance.

Running move_recordings.sh returns these errors:

Quote:
/usr/local/bin/move_recordings.sh: line 10: /usr/bin/GlobalSQLTweaker.sh: No such file or directory
/usr/local/bin/move_recordings.sh: line 11: /usr/local/bin/MythTV.sql: No such file or directory

So, on line 10, I changed "GlobalSQLTweaker.sh" to "GlobalSQLtweaker.sh" and on line 11, I changed "MythTV.sql" to "MythTV-sql".

The good news is that these changes made the script run properly.

The bad news is that the script cleared all my settings (as expected), and my recordings list is now out of date. I.e., there are recordings listed that are no longer even on disk, and recent recordings that are on disk are no longer listed.

And, I still have no recording profile groups.

Okay, I realized that the reason the script wrecked my recordings list was simply because I didn't do a backup first (some time passed between when I upgraded to R5A30.2 and when I ran the script). So no big deal there; my fault, my problem.

The issue of no recording profile groups still remains though.

Post subject:  same here...

Same experience here:

backed up R5A30, upgraded to R5A30.2, restored, ran script, got same errors as "Some Guy", modified script, ran script again. No errors this time, but still no profiles or profile groups. Recordings survived.

BTW, thanks for all your work, cesman! The R5A30 release is very nice. It's much easier to install and more complete than the previous releases.

Post subject:  I have the profiles now!

After following the steps in my last post, I tried re-running mythtv-setup. I clear both input settings and channel settings.

Now I have the transcode and mpeg2 encoders profile groups. :)

Post subject:  Fixed, but....

Well, I fixed the problem. Unfortunately, I did nothing that could explain the problem if it happens again. I simply started COMPLETELY FROM SCRATCH, (and by completely, I mean from the point of zeroing the drive, taking apart the box, putting it all back together, reburning the iso, COMPLETELY), and now the thing works. I don't know why it didn't in the first place, and... well, I really don't care. Maybe it was a transient, random bug? I don't know. But it works now.

This did the trick for me, as well.

I followed the cesman + rdbeer instructions and now have recording & transcoding options. Thanks!

Unfortunatly the upgrade to R5A30.2 seems to have created some other problems though. Fixed one item, broke at least two...for now. Off to search for solutions...
