Post subject:  Program guide crashes MythTV in live TV mode

Using R5A30.1

When I select to watch Live TV, and then press S for the on screen guide, I see the guide for a second then MythTV crashes out to desktop, and I have to restart MythTV by hand.

I'm not sure where to start looking to diagnose and fix this annoying problem. This has been occuring this way since initial install.

Also, my ATI tv wonder card records with some static at the top edge of the screen. What is the setting to get it to crop those top few useless lines off? (i assume it's just a myth setting somewhere)

Can anyone suggest something I can check to figure out why the on-screen guide crashes MythTV in live TV mode?

Post subject:  Logs?

Have you checked the logs?
With the Wiki down at the moment, you could try looking at http://tinyurl.com/amt5p if you don't know where to look for the logs.

Also, posting more specific info (details of the hardware you're using, what you've tried, etc.) and putting your second (unrelated) question in a separate thread might elicit some more responses.

Post subject:  Live TV Display Program Guide mythfrontend crashes

I'll try to provide some more detail as I'm having the same problem:

ASUS P5LD2-VM R2.0 (GREEN) Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945G
Intel Core2Duo
1G RAM
Integrated video: Intel GMA 950
PVR350, TV Out not configured
Onboard sound and NIC
WD 250GB (SATA and works fine, BTW)

US, using zap2it for programming information. mythbackendfill seems to work fine, no errors.

If I attempt to set up a recording through the Program Guide the Program Guide displays properly, I can see the program information, scroll, jump, etc., no problem.

While watching live TV, if I press display on the remote the popup window with program information displays properly.

If I attempt to display the program guide while watching Live TV, I see the guide for a split-second and then mythfrontend crashes. I've examined all suggested logs but don't see anything which indicates a problem.

Since this is a fully new computer I then tried a full reinstallation but have the same symptom.

I also tried running myisamck on the mysql db to see if there was a problem there, none found (although I didn't expect a problem since the program guide works through the record process.)

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Post subject:  A few more bits of info I forgot

I'm new to mythtv and knoppmyth

I installed knoppmyth R5D1, both backend and frontend

Everything is through the video controller; I haven't connected to a TV yet (and may have troubles given discussion around R5D1 and the PVR-350)

Everything else I've tried to use (there's A LOT) seems to work fine. I can record TV, rewind live TV, get weather ... so the installation seems pretty sound to me.

There was a known problem MythTV bug in this area (I saw it myself) in the 0.19 series. I haven't seen it in the 0.20 series.

Post subject:  More data

Instead of letting gdm start mythfrontend I started it manually from a shell so that I could see stdout, stderr. Most of the time I see the following message:

*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid next size (normal): 0x83a7830 ***

but the value changes each time. Once I got:

*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (!prev): 0xa9886a68 ***

and once mythfrontend didn't even get to the point of starting. I got a segmentation fault before it could bring up the X display.

Post subject:  Had same problem - here's a workaround

I had the exact same issue when I started using MythTV (double free exception after about a second when hitting program guide). I had originally installed with the display resolution set for 1024x768. Dropped my screen resolution down to 800x600 and the issue went away.

A debug compile and gdb trace showed it was some sort of problem in libavcodec's video rescaling code.

Post subject:  Problem solved ... on to the next one

Thanks very much. I changed XF86Config-4 to use 800x600 and it works. There was a comment that someone had seen this on mythtv 0.19 but hadn't on 0.20. I upgraded to 0.20 first and the problem persisted. It took the change to 800x600 to fix the issue. I appreciate the assistance.
