My PVR is coming along pretty well thanks to Knoppmyth! One outstanding issue I am still having is how I can play encrypted DVDs. A non-encrypted DVD (like Revolution OS) works like a charm. However, whenever I pop in an encrypted DVD (like The Golden Girls: The Definative Collection
) my PVR locks up like Windows box. I've trolled through the previous posts a bit and followed the suggestion to install libdecss - I now have libdvdcss2 version 1.2.8 installed. I've checked the symbolic link on /dev/dvd and it is pointing to /dev/scd0 (it is a DVD burner). Since non-encrypted DVDs work, I imagine this is alright. Here is some more info on my DVD burner:
# dmesg | grep DVD
hdb: GENERIC DVD DUAL 4XMax, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive

Any ideas?
For anybody else that may come across this post in searching the archives, this ended up being an issue with my overly-sensitive DVD reader. Any time I try to play a DVD with even a slight imperfection, the system either stops playing the DVD and returns to Myth or locks up. Playing a DVD with no scratches works fine, though.
- so i am stuck chaining the DVD onto my hard drive.
