Hello everyone,

I've been a myth follower since .08 and a KnoppMyth follower from almost the same time. At the moment I'm on the island of Bequia (Beck-way) in the Grenadines, below St. Vincent in the Eastern Caribbean. I'm visiting my father and updating his myth machine. He is visually impaired so being able to better manage his TV schedule, and play back shows to catch things in the audio that he might otherwise miss, is very important to him since books and newspapers are no longer an option.

I wanted to congratulate Cecil, Dale and all the others who have contributed, large and small to the project over the past few years. The first time I installed Myth by hand it took 3 weeks to get it all working on Fedora. I arrived here Friday night, dropped the R5A30.2 CD in his box (which was running R4V5), formatted it and installed. With the exception of installing my home-made local guide grabber, I literally had the system up and running in about 15 minutes.

The system is just a vanilla Duron 1200 system with 256MB of RAM, a $50 GF4 MX4000 card from CompUSA and a PVR-250 card. Everything worked out of the box as advertised. The bootsplash is also a nice touch.

Great work guys.

-Jeff

PS - If this doesn't win the award for most remote install I'll be terribly disappointed.... :P

:D 3 weeks for your first install, now you can get it done in 15 minutes! You've certainly come a long way! I don't suppose you can find Bequia on Frappr? Unless someone does an install on Diego Garcia, you da man!

I did mark St. Vincent on Frappr, Bequia isn't there. I also marked the Turks & Caicos Islands in the British West Indies (SE of the Bahamas) where my own myth box lives. :)

Yes, 3 weeks to 15 minutes is a huge leap. I don't think it can get much faster. Buy the right hardware (which is found easily on the forum) and it's virtually plug and play if, especially if you're in NA. The extra few minutes for me was hacking my caribbean grabber in.

PS - If you are trying to find Bequia on a map, go SW from the bottom of St. Vincent, its one of the first islands. Pop ~5000. And yes, amazingly, they have (slow) cable modem service.
