Officially what is the version you suggest running for stability and usage? I'm setting up one for my daughter for College.. She loves my myth but it is going to have to be very stable as I want be there to tweak it all the time like I can at my home.

Comments welcome buy anyone!

Personally i love R5a22. Plus with the next version of KnoppMyth you can upgrade R5a22 to mythtv .19 with no problem. I've never had stability issues. I've always been able to upgrade to new ivtv drivers with no problem. Everything in my machine has been plug and go. I really haven't had to mess around to get it working with R5a22. (it's the best as far as i'm concerned although keep in mind i've never used the higher above 22 knoppmyth versions because i can't upgrade from 22 cause of the SVN capture, so your milage may vary).

My System:
Pc Chips MU811 MoBo
XP 2400+
512mb ram
(2) pvr-250's
(1) pvr-500
FX 5200 with 256mb

The only issue and this could be linux or my cable box, when i installed a belkin firewire, linux recognizes it, but i can capture video sometimes, but more times than not i can't. I'm thinking more my cable box, but who knows, also i'm thinking about getting a better firewire card for linux.

Hi snake3061,

I question your reference to "stable" ? I picture the undercarriage as being built like a truck and easily carries the light load of KnoppMyth. Unless you go into the innards and dink around under the hood, you can look for many miles of run time.

Two years ago, a friend bought two PVR-350 cards, he gave me one and said "make me a mythtv box". Well, both of us being farm boys, understand about somethings growing slowly however in a short period of time with Cecil & Dale's KnoppMyth, we were both running R4V5. I have upgraded him 3 times since, R5A16, A22, A30 and only once touched his BE machine of three cards, and a remote FE. He is a windows admin and only knows linux from what I have taught him and I don't know that much either.

107 days ago I had my power panel replaced, and that is also my machine up time. It is running R5A16 recording ~10 - 12 programs per week and watching some portions of most of those. I am using this version only because the machine is also busy doing my e-mail, mozilla, openoffice, freemind, dia, gramps, being an alarm clock, and while it is resting, is a ftp server collecting data to feed my son's weather related web site through out the 24 hours. Also I burn new releases to play with and to help friends build their very own KnoppMyth systems. I don't have the down time available to rebuild the "additions".

Oh, I forgot to mention that it also captures a couple of my favorite webcast radio shows that I listen to while doing my writing. Prairie Home Companion & Cartalk. Then there are times I like to watch NASA tv from a web stream... Stable in what sense?

As for tweaking her machine while away, there are two ways to do that also should you really need / want. Simply use ssh or an external modem with mgetty and it is almost like being there. Then you can use festival to send her a voice message when you all done.

As for which version? The R5A16, A26, A30, A30.2 work very well with a PVR-350 card and A30.2 probably has most of the finer tweaks incorperated. I am going to also guess that it may be the last version that will use the .18 Mythtv since the .19 is very close. I prefer the 350 as it lets my kids can watch tv while I do my work / play.

Down side? I can't print yet and I haven't made the phone work either. I haven't exercised all the options in KnoppMyth, however neither have I listened to all the radio staions that my car radio picks up.

If I can shed any further light please feel free to inquire.
Have a great day :)
Mike

R5A16 on e-machine W1640 ~1.3 gig AMD, Via chipset, 384 meg, 300 gig hd, 56k USR modem
(Note, this is the only machine that I have been able to mix audio sources, ie, time annoucement while listening to music)
