If I reboot X (ctrl+shift+backspace) I always get that 30 second login screen, "i will login as user mythtv in 30 seconds" DO IT NOW, stop asking me!!! IT irritates the hell out of me, how do I get rid of it? I've searched on here to no avail. I NEVER EVER want to see it again, I HATE IT!!!!! :)

Also in experimenting with XF86Config sometimes X doesn't boot so I get that blue screen error message. Is there a way to restart X via SSH? When I try say StartX as root on actual machine I get X starting but MythTV doesn't run so I eventually have to keep rebooting the machine, every time I make a change which is so time consuming.

From the command line as root: "/etc/init.d/gdm restart". I think this will also avoid the login prompt.

That works great, thanks a bunch. It also reboots very quick and works when X doesn't boot due to XF86Config errors. I'd still like to know how to get rid of the login screen, if for instance you do do ctrl+shift+backspace. I don't see the point of it? what is the point of it?
