Post subject:  nvram-wakeup and KnoppMyth Halt
I was starting to look at setting up nvram-wakeup and notice it mentioned in some of the notes about r4v2.

Are the pieces already in place to use Myth's Shutdown/Wakeup functionality?

R4 had a "shutdown the system" option when exiting the frontend but in R4V2 it's moved to the KnoppMyth menu. Does Knoppmyth Halt do something that the frontend's "shutdown the system" didn't do?

I'm guess I'm looking to not re-invent the wheel.

well that option went away in mythtv that change was not made by the knoppmyth people. In the newer versions of mythtv it only has the shutdown option if that system is not a master backend.

NVRAM-Wakeup is there so you can use that to wake the system up. I have not done this so I cannot tell you how to do it. KnoppMyth -> Shutdown does just that halts the system.

For the benefit of anybody reading this thread:

NVRAM-Wakeup is NOT plug and play. I'll continue looking at it for my system but it is very MB specific and I don't see how it could easily be worked into KnoppMyth anytime soon.

I use NVRAM-Wakeup on my system and it works very well. You have to tweak MythTV here and there to get it to work. I also had to install a special shutdown kernel/script that puts the box in sleep mode. Also getting the NVRAM settings for your mainboard (if it's not already supported) is pretty easy if you can read instructions. I followed a guide that was written for VDR. It was in german though.

Figured it out. :D :D

Test if nvram-wakeup work with your mainboard. If your board is not supported, create your own config file, like discribed in the readme.
Set backend idle time to 10sec, timeformat to t_time.
To shutdown the box, you have to exit the frontend. With frontend up it never gets idle.

If your board need a reboot for nvram create a shutdown script and add it to the shutdown command.

"timer_shutdown.sh"
#!/bin/sh
sudo lilo -R PowerOff
sudo shutdown -r now

edit your lilo.conf
copy your current linux entry and add a append="0" to the config and change the label to PowerOff. Lilo will then boot one time into runlevel 0 and shutdown. Run lilo on the commandline, because you have changed the lilo.conf.
